Personal Statement

I have received a lot of e-mail from the people who have visited my site both commenting and disagreeing on what has been written. I have also received many peoples views and opinions, negative and positive, on the shooting as well, and also some personal stories of people like myself who can relate to Eric and Dylan.

I personally don't feel that it is wrong to feel compassion for the killers. Many people would disagree with that but that is my own personal opinion which I know is shared by many others. Does that make me a bad person for feeling for someone who has been hurt?

Some of the visitors to this site have the notion that I feel nothing for all of the others who lost their lives that day. Let me tell you now that that is very far from being true. It saddened me that so many innocent people had to loose their lives because of a smaller few. I don't believe that everyone is so innocent though. Their anger was created by the people around them. That doesn't give them or anyone for that matter the right to kill, but there were people to blame for this. The people who gave them a hard time, the ones who wouldn't give them the time of day and all of the ignorance around them. They were victims as well. No one is born with the urge to kill.

Even though this was a great tragedy we should be willing to learn from this, to help and prevent others like Eric and Dylan that may follow. Even if we can't stop all of the harrassment and ridicule we can help people to deal with it and recognize that they are better people than what they are being lead to believe. The willingness of other people shows that they care and knowing that someone cares means a lot. There is a solution to every problem it may not always be at our grasp but if we care enough to find it then it will be found, and in time, things will change.
