The dreaded NC-17 is the most extreme example of the ratings system. It is not that rating movies is a bad thing, but that the NC-17 takes control out of the peoples hands. It is up to the parent to decide if their child is mature enough to see a movie, not the MPAA or any other ratings board. The NC-17 rating only works to keep the films out of theatres and out of the publics awareness.
