Welcome to my Nursery Rhyme section, maintained mainly because there aren't many sites on line that include illustrations with their rhymes, and it's difficult to get my two year old grandchild interested in sitting at the computer without pictures. I'm sure other grammies can relate! She won't sit down and stay interested in a book without trying to tear it up, but she'll sit for half an hour looking at stuff on the internet; I guess she's definitely a modern girl. I'll keep adding more pages to this section as time allows. The rhymes I remember from my own youth, but the illustrations take time to find, scan and edit. I want to include several illustrators as my husband and I collect children's books, primarily for the quality and variation in artistry.
The delightful graphics on this page are from a book called Treasure of Literature for Children published by Kingfisher Books and illustrated by Hilda Offen. The stories and poems are retold by Linda Yeatman; I didn't use her exact wording since they weren't quite how I remembered them. If you have other suggestions or preferences, drop me a line at RaggBagg and we'll discuss other versions. Note on illustrations: these are not exact reproductions; I've had to scale down and in some cases change or delete part of the graphic due to space constraints. If you want to view the original art, I suggest that you buy (or look up at the library) the book. Most of the artists featured here sell paintings, posters, lithographs, and collector plates. We have a few plates by Scott Gustafson - not sure if they're still available but I found some of his lithographs on sale at the Framery of Fine Art and the Repartee Gallery.
