My name is Clement, 35 years of age, born in 21 September 1968 and standing at 1.70m tall, tanned complexion. I come from an average family of seven members: my parents, 2 elder brothers and 2 elder sisters and a younger brother who was adopted by my uncle and so I became the youngest in my family.

I spent my childhood life at an rural kampong village named Jalan Ang Teng in the 70’s near the current Paya Lebar Airbase. I could vividly recall my kampong zinc-sheet house overseeing a wrecked military aircraft for training purposes. Each time we could hear the plane flying over my house usually twice a day, in the late morning and early evening. At times the noise was so unbearable that I have to cover my ears or I have to raise my voice to get my message across. I completed my Kindergartens at PAP community centre and primary education at Aljunied Primary School during my stay at the kampong. I could still recall those memorable moments of my childhood life, where all my neighborhood children get together to play hide-and-seek, police-catch-thief, yo-yo, ti-kum-ti-kum, zero-point, marbles, fly kites catching spiders and fighting fish and lots more. We also went fishing, swimming in the pond and exploring every corner of our kampong vincity. Life was so innocent and carefree back then.

Soon after my completion of my primary education, in the late 70’s, my family has moved to live in a 4-room HDB flat at Bedok Reservoir View. This is the time when Singapore has started to reshape it’s economy through changing landscapes, where kampong houses has been demolished and more and more HDB flats has been built and people living in a so-called “Bird Cage” HDB units. Unlike kampong days, people here are too confined to their own HDB unit, less communicating, networking and socializing. Here I began my 4 years secondary education at Kaki Bukit Secondary School for my 1st half and Bedok Town Secondary School, took my Cambridge ‘O’ level examinations and graduated in 1985. I did quite badly for my examinations, I did not re-sit for my examines, went on to help my uncle in an cleaning service company for about a year and other part-time or temporary job. I was enlisted for my national service with the Singapore Arm Forces (SAF) when I turned 18 years of age in 1987. During my two years compulsory military service, I had gone through my three months basic military training (BMT) at Ngee Soon Camp and later transferred to become storeman in Pulau Tekong Camp (offshore island north-east of Singapore) to  finish the rest of my  one and a half years service in end of 1989. Life was routine but fun then, you get to meet friends from different family backgrounds and personalities, act smart, on-the-ball, bo-chap, idle-king etc. I have learned to be a more disciplined, worked as a team, responsible and matured person during my 2 years national service. I learned t

In the year 1990, blur blur stepping out into the society to work and started my first career with Isetan Singapore as frontline customer service staff. Work there for about 2 years and move on to work with a trading company dealing with branded shoes and fashion apparels – stay on for about 4 years and move on to work in  a manufacturing environment dealing with power supplier cords and assemblies for 1 years and another 2 years with a trading company dealing with pharmaceuticals and chemicals products. Last but not least, move on again to work with a Japanese electronic giant for 3 years and last but not least a reputable financial company right now. It seems that, I have been job-hopping quite a bit during my past 10 years of working life; nevertheless, I have been exposure to many job responsibilities and exposures and to be more diversify and prepare to adapt to any uncertainties during economic slow down. During the 1997 economic recession, I enrolled for a Diploma in Logistics with a private institution in Singapore and graduated in end 1999 and further enrolled for Advance Diploma level but I could not complete entire course, quit after completed my first semester due to family and work  commitment.

Life is unpredictable! Having spent almost half of my entire life span, now in mid-year crisis i.e. job security. Thanks to the modern technology, knowledge-based economy, global economy slow down, liberalization of global trade, Iraq War, terrorist threats and last but not least the formidable SARS virus. Singapore is now facing with lots of uncertainties and challenges ahead for the next 5 to 10 years. Perhaps we have enjoyed many prosperous years, spent enough luxury life for developing country like Singapore. We have gone ahead too fast among others.. and it’s time to remark Singapore. It may me a long and painful journey to overcome but we have to response rapidly to the global situations and changes in order to be competitive among global players.
