A Word From The Prez-
Happy Spring all! Got some great news for you guys. Michelle
is back
and we're working on making the Word even better! Look for those
changes next issue (as you might have noticed we got a new email
addy.
Hotmail was getting to be a pain and holding us back so I'm
using my
dad's other account for this newsletter). In Wilkinson news
I saw the
band in Red Wing a few weeks ago, and they were great! The new
band did
a great job and I got to hear some of the new material (a few
songs I'd
already heard but it was nice hearing them again)! Can't wait
for the
next concert :0)
Tracey
A Word From the Vice President-

opening
thing, so forgive me if it's horrible :) I can't wait to hear
the new
Wilkinsons stuff. I Wanna Be That Girl is really awesome. Well,
I'll talk to everyone later!

Country Weekly Article- March 20th, 2001
Sea With A View
-The Wilkinsons make exploring the depths a family affair-
Sixty feet below the ocean's glassy surface, The Wilkinsons
are face to
face with Caribbean sea creatures ranging from steel-tinted
barracudas to a
rainbow of tropical fish. The musical trio- dad Steve, sister
Amanda and brother Tyler- are scouring the flat football field-size
stretch of
coral reef called La Mesa, just off the coast of George Town,
Grand Caymen.
The adventure takes on added significance because their diving
buddy is none other than Jean-Michel Cousteau, so of famed ocean
explorer Jacques
Cousteau. After spending nearly an hour underwater, Jean-Michel
signals
that it's time to head up.
"The things you see on a dive are amazing," Amanda
declares, shedding
her air tank onboard the Sea Ray diving boat. Before the day
is done, her
mom, Christine, and 11-year-old sister, Kiaya, will join the
group for more dives.
The boat slices through the crystalline water on its way to
shore. The
Wilkinsons are in the Caymens to perform in the Fin Fair country
music series.
"Being introduced to diving as a family has been a wonderful
experience," adds Amanda. "In the last two years we
have discovered so much below the water." Jean-Michel nods.
"This whole family has discovered that they have a
passion for the ocean," he acknowledges. "And, of
course, I share that
passion with them. They are the perfect example that diving
is an easy
sport for every member of the family." As the boat docks
behind Sunset House,
the hotel-resort known for a haven for divers, Steve reminisces.
"One of my
favorite memories came on a dive right after Amanda, Tyler and
Christine were certified. We were down about 50 feet and I rolled
over to swim on
my back. About 10 feet behind I saw Christine holding hands
with Amanda and Tyler, and I thought, "This is so perfect."
"People need to rethink this sport if they think they
can't do it with
their families. If you can ski with your family, you can scuba
dive with your family."
Jean-Michel is continuing his family's tradition- the project
to
preserve the oceans that his famous dad started- with his own
Oceans Futures
Society. The non-profit organization enlightens people about
the importance of
the world's oceans.
"Jacques Cousteau had a wonderful relationship with John
Denver because
of their mutual interest in perserving the health of the oceans,"
notes Steve.
"That same concern for the oceans brought Jean-Michel and
us together."
At Sunset House, a 9-foot-tall mermaid brings the Wilkinsons
together.
The 600-pound bronze statue is awaiting permanent placement
just offshore,
under 50 feet of water. As the singers pose with the mermaid,
Amanda glances
up at its bare torso and playfully puts her hands over her 16-year-old
brother's eyes.
After another jaunt out to sea and another dive, the trio and
Jean-Michel join divers from around the world in celebrating
inaugural inductees
into the International Scuba Divers Hall of Fame. "What
an inspiring
ceremony," Amanda declares as boats gather off an ivory
beach to honor those who
advanced scuba diving. Inductees include Jacques Cousteau and
Lloyd
Bridges, whose Sea Hunt TV series introduced the sport to millions
of viewers in
the late '50s.
The setting sun arcs toward the horizon as singer Matt King
kicks off
the concert on an outdoor stage just feet from the ocean's lapping
waves. A
gentle breeze is curling in when Steve, Amanda, and Tyler take
the stage to
entertain the crowd of about 600.
"We had the time of our lives," Amanda recalls of
her family's visit to
the Grand Caymen. Now they're gearing up to return. With Fin
Fair morphing
into the bigger, better Caymen Country series, they'll headline
again in August. And they'll
have new music to showcase. "I Wanna Be That Girl"
is the debut single
off their yet-to-be-titled album. The single is set for release
later this
month and the CD is due in May.
Although the new album doesn't have an ocean-saving song on
it, one is
just around the corner. "I'm not someone who gets on a
soap-box a whole lot,"
Steve reveals, "but you can't be around the oceans and
not be inspired
by them - and not feel compelled to write about them. You can
safely say singing about the
oceans is in The Wilkinson's future."
Jean-Michel nods. "This wonderful family embraces the
goal of perserving the
world's oceans and marine life - and they're great ambassadors
to spread the
word about how we're all concerned to the oceans."
An old Japan Article...
by Peter Fredenburg
(I just took the whole article (that's why it has Brad Paisley
in it too, it's pretty interesting.)
An unruffled Brad Paisley stares into the steaming throat of
Mount Aso,
an active volcano near Kumamoto on the island of Japan. "The
way I see
it," he drawls, "if you fly 8,000 miles to do a show,
go to see a
volcano - and it erupts and kills you, it's your time to go.
That's what you came to do."
Luckily, dying under a torrent of molten lava was not
what Brad came to Japan to do.
He's here to perform at the 12th annual Country Gold Festival,
along
with fellow artists The Wilkinsons, Chalee Tennison and The
Derailers.
The stars are here because of the vast number of country fans
in Japan,
despite the music's scarcity on national airwaves. "What
impresses me is
that these people have little or no support system for their
love of
country music," marvels Steve Wilkinson. "Maybe a
half hour on the radio
every week." Amanda Wilkinson agrees. "Here, it's
like they're hearing
country music for the first time."
Brad finds the Japanese love of country music refreshing. "It's
pure
here," he notes. "It's not about money or fame or
flash. It helps us
remember why we make music." Before giving 25,000 Japanese
fans their
country fix at the festival - an open-air venue overlooking
Mount Aso -
the performers have several days to take in the local sights.
And they do!
At the Shinto shrine in Suizenji Park, 18-year-old Amanda unfolds
a slip
of paper from a fortune cookie. In love, everything goes well,
she reads
aloud. As for travel, take time, and it will be enjoyable. Brad's
fortune cookie reveals sort of an opposite message: Travel will
show no
profit. Not exactly on the mark - he does make some bucks for
performing
in Japan - but he did have to turn down an invitation to perform
in
Nashville at the 75th anniversary celebration of his beloved
Grand Ole
Opry. "Two of the world's best country music events are
going on at the
same time," he declares, shaking his head. "What's
a guy to do?" After
the festival, Brad is tired but elated as he waits at the airport
to hop
the plane home. "I had the time of my life here,"
he admits. "It doesn't
get any better than this. "I'm going to have a hard time
describing this
event to my friends," he says, "because it's the coolest
country
festival I've ever seen."

The Wilkinson's
Red Wing, Minnesota
(3/10/01)
By Tracey

Arrived at Treasure Island around 3:30 and went to find out
where the
concerts were going to be, stopped some guy with a cart asking
if he
knew about meet and greets (it was funny cuz he was like "have
fun and
don't spend all ur money" and I was
like "I'm NOT here to gamble!" and he goes "I
know".
After that we wentto the gift shops (I got carded in the one
even though my mom was RIGHT
there *sigh* I look so young). Then we ate something for supper
and gambled a bit
(I mostly watched, hehe spent $2 of my mom's).
Showtime came and we went in to our seats (front row left by
Tyler's mike). The lady
next to us started talking to us, she was really cool! I saw
DT and
talked to him for a minute. Then went back and sat down. The
music
started and out ran Amanda, Steve, and Tyler! Tyler was wearing
his
orange tye die shirt, Amanda blue pants and a blue tank top
(like in
IWBTG), and Steve I don't remember. They started the show off
by
singing "I Had A Dream" which will be on their 3rd
album. It was a
great song! I loved it :) Then they launched into Outside Providence
and welcomed the crowd and introduced themselves. After singing
a bunch
more songs they gave the band a break and did an acoustic set.
During the acoustic set they were joking around, making the
audience
laugh. Steve started off Somewhere Before on the wrong chord
and
Amanda ended up singing way low and made a crack about sounding
like
Barry White and how she's just a white chick from Canada so
that'd be
scary and so he started that song over. Then, Steve was saying
"Take me
to the home, it's green Jello nite." and Tyler said "and
happy hours in
what 20 minutes?". LOL! Then Steve asked Tyler if he remembered
"Tin
Can Telephone" and Amanda joked how Steve always asks if
they remember
songs they used to sing when they were 7 and 8 and Tyler said
he did,
just had to get the right note...he was going "higher lower
it's like
the price is right higher lower" LOL! And he launched into
"Tin Can
Telephone" (People were laughing at first cuz you can tell
it's meant
for a little kid to sing it. I gotta say I loved it though,
it's a
great song and cool to hear something from their past!)
Then they brought the band back up onstage and introduced
them. It was cool
because this was the first gig with the new bandmates (welcome
aboard
Kevin Aerosmith, Mark Easterling, Tom Bentley (from Bryan White's
band), and
George Lawrence). They said they were nervous but the show was
going well (it was!)
After they sang a few more hits and a few new one's ("Nobody
Ever Died
of a Broken Heart", "A Little More Love", and
"I Want To Be That Girl"). Then they
said their goodbyes but we knew they'd be back. They came back
out a few
minutes later and sang "China Grove" and "Listen
to the Music".
Liz and I went backstage for the meet and greet. Tom Bentley
walked by
and I said Hi to him, asked if he was from Bryan White's band
and he
said "yeah for 4 years". He was nice.
I let Liz go first, and introduced her to them. Then I talked
to DT,
while she talked to the Wilkinson's. When it was my turn I walked
over
in front of Amanda and gave her my pic to sign and I congratulated
them
on the Juno's for everyone on the board and myself (I said it
was from
the board) and they said "thanks". Then I told them
about Nick (the guy from IWBTG) getting the part (sadly he says
they
picked someone else now, changed it at the last minute but that's
show
biz I guess). I said "you know that guy from your video?"
and they said
yah and I said "he wanted me to tell you that he tried
out for some new
movie with robert redford and he got the part" and they
were all "he
did?!" "that's great!" and Steve was saying how
he'd said he was up
against a lotta people from Nashville and I said "yeah
he says he beat
out hundreds of guys" and tyler was like "alright!"
and I said the movie
would be out late this year/early next and steve goes "yeah".
Then we took a group pic and I asked Tyler about homeschool.
I asked
what kind of grades he gets and Steve jokingly says "lousy!"
and Tyler
said "Well I pass". (Awww does that mean he doesn't
do that good?) We
said our goodbyes and told them we'd see them at the 2nd show.
We went to find my aunt and mom and in the mean time found
Tom Bentley
on the phone. Liz had been saying how hott he was so I asked
if she wanted
a pic with him (she hadn't talked to him when I did at the meet
and greet).
She did, so we waited until he was done with his phone call
and I asked
and he took one :) Saw ummm Kevin Aerosmith I think it was with
some fans
but didn't bug him.
9:00 came and it was time for the second show. The Wilkinson's
came
out...this time Amanda was wearing red pants and a black Billy
Idol
shirt (Tyler made fun of it and she was like "You gave
it to me" LOL)
and a blue jean jacket. Tyler was wearing the same outfit and
Steve might have
been...he was wearing this nice shiny
grey outfit. They started off with "I Had A Dream"
again. It was the
exact same show I believe, except Tyler sang "One of These
Days" instead
of "Tin Can Telephone". It was flawless and great
:) Steve sang the
original version of "Williamstown" again (sorry I
didn't mention it in
the first show), did a great job! This lady kept yelling out
stuff and
was getting really annoying...at first Amanda was talking to
her for a
few minutes but then she kept yelling stuff and Tyler kept laughing
and
Steve and Amanda were trying to ignore it...later she went up
by the
stage and Amanda said she had to shake her hand. They kept making
comments about her like "she should lay off the snapple"
and stuff hehe
and she was like "i didn't have any". ANYWHO...it
was a great show.
Tyler and Amanda would come over right in front of my mom and
aunt, it
was cool. They joked around again. This time Tyler was saying
how he should write a book on
going thru puberty while touring and Steve and Amanda were saying
he might
have something there. And after one particular comment to Amanda,
Amanda said she was
going to look for a new lead singer and Tyler goes "who
Billy Gilman?" LOL! He
kept mentioning Billy to her that nite. Oh man it was great
(Billy
supposedly has a crush on her, cute). My mom and aunt enjoyed
the show too so :0)
Went backstage for the 2nd meet and greet. This time DT checked
the
cards (Yea!) He didn't check mine though, I asked if he wanted
to and he
said no, he knew who I was :0) We got in line and while we were
waiting
for them to come out I looked for Chad (I'd never met him and
wanted
to). Saw him over by the stage but there was a guard down there
and he
looked busy so I waited. Right before the Wilks came out Chad
started
walking to the door so I ran over there and said "Hey Chad!"
and he
turned (their was a guard right by him but he let me talk to
Chad) and
he said "Hey" and I asked if I looked familiar (because
he was looking
at me quite a bit during the shows) and he said that I did and
I talked
to him for a few minutes, he was nice. He introduced himself
and shook
my hand, said he'd see me at the next show (LOL probably).
This time we were pretty close to the front of the line...The
people
realized they were at the front and not the end and the first
group left saying
they weren't ready yet they were scared (LOL were they joking
or???
Amanda, Steve, and Tyler are sweethearts, nothing to be scared
of).
Liz went up and was talking to Amanda about something so Steve
turned to me
and asked how I liked the new songs. I said they were good and
he said
"You've heard them twice now." and I said "more
than that, north dakota" and
he said "Did we do real bad mood there?" and I said
"yah" and he said
"but you didn't hear a little more love" and I said
"yeah i did on a
radio show" and i said "but i hadn't heard it live"
and Steve goes "this gurls ahead of the wave!"
HEHE. Then I asked if Chris and Kiaya will be going on tour
with them
soon and Steve said yeah and the reason they weren't here was
because they
flew straight from Dallas. Tyler added that they had family
coming in.
By then Liz was done talking to Amanda so I said that Amanda
so I walked up to her
and told her that my friend Danielle said hi and how she couldn't
come
because she isn't 18 and Amanda said "well tell her i/we
say hi" and I said
"ok." Then I asked if she knew Brian from Ohio and
she said "yeah" and we
talked about their show there (the one in July).
Next, me and Liz got a group pic taken with them (I was between
Amanda
and Tyler yet again, one of these days I want to go in between
Tyler and Steve).
After that I talked for a minute or two more, hugged them all
goodbye and left. It was another great nite of Wilkinson shows
and I
had a blast. Can't wait for the next show!
Red Wing
By Liz
It's a few days since I've seen The Wilkinson's in concert
for my
second and third time. I did see them way back in 1999 at the
Minnesota State Fair opening up for Bryan White. I decided I
would join their fan
club on the spot so I could meet them afterwards. They are truly
sweethearts.
Amanda is so outgoing and a sweet girl. She would start a conversation
with
anyone and it's like you've known eachother for years. Tyler
is a bit more laid
back and pretty shy. He is very reserved but he does open up
if you ask him a
question. Steve is a great guy too. He likes to crack a lot
of jokes.
I was really excited when my bud Tracey asked me if I wanted
to go see
them with her. Since she's a pro and all. She's just seen her
12th
and 13th show. She talked about seeing them for the longest
time and she got
us awesome seats too. It was at a casino down in Red Wing, MN.
So it was
obvisouly 18+. I'm sorry for any under age kids that wanted
to attend.
Her aunt Toni picked me up at my house early Saturday afternoon
and
then we left to go get Tracey and her mom Diane. Since her aunt
used
to live by Red Wing, she knew a faster way of getting down there.
It wasn't
too long in the car and soon we were at Treasure Island. The
first thing we
did was try to find the venue so we wouldn't be late for the
show. After
that, we had a couple hours to spare, so we walked around and
gambled a little. We had no
suck luck at all. We ate too. We could've saw their soundcheck
but we didn't
know what time it was at. =( The first show started at 6:30
PM and it lasted to almost 8.
They did do an encore too. It was really a terrific show. They
cracked some
jokes a long the way too. After that it was time for the Meet
and Greet for
Fan Club Members. I'm not in the Fan Club at the moment but
I used Tracey's
mom's. They were very sweet and it was great seeing them again.
I got a
couple autographs. One for my brother and the other for me.
I also got my
pic taken with them. Tracey wanted to be at the end so we had
a little longer
time to speak with them. Their roadmanager DT is really cool
too.
After they left we had another good half hour before the second
show
would begin at 9. So we walked around trying to Find Toni and
Diane
since they were only going to see the second show. While looking
we bummed
into one of the bandmates of The Wilkinsons. They have a whole
new band except for
two. I got my pic taken with Tom Bentley who's the
keyboardist(formely with the Bryan White band). So that was
a cool experience.
The second show they performed many of the same songs except
this time in the Acoustic part of the show, Tyler sang a Tim
Mcgraw song "One
of these days" and in the first he sang "Tin can Telephone".
LOL that was
cute. Amanda is the only one who wore different clothes for
both shows. I
was really sad to see it come to an end. Tracey and I met them
again
after the second show and this time we were almost at the front
of the line. We asked
some questions and congratulated on their most recent award
at the
Junos(Canada) for best duo or group. It was a great experience
and I can't
wait to see them again.

And here our your responses to last months...
If the wilkinsons moved to your neighborhood how would you
make them
feel at home??
If the wilkinsons where moving to my neighborhood tto make
them feel at
home i think just being yourself don't go rushing over there
with all
these treats and want
autographs just smiling and waving in the streets or offer to
introduce
them to people around or show them around if they wanted to
and ask them
if they need any help with anything just to hollar! - Angel
Right on Angel :0)
HEY!!! OKAY, WELL FIRST I WOULD OFFER TO TAKE THEM TO COSMIC
BOWLING
AND THEN I WOULD INVITE THEM OVER FOR A DINNER/KARAOKE PARTY!!!
THAT
WOULD BE SOOOO AWESOME!!! - NBL, CRYSTAL
Well, first I'd introduce myself and my family (that'd really
help,lol)
and then I'd invite them over to dinner. Finally, I'd keep all
of the
obessed fans away!! - Elizabeth
heh. I'd bake 'em jello, like in the commerical! I'm kidding
(well not
really), lol, but I can barely make peanutbutter and jelly.
:O) - Lauren
Hey, I'd introduce myself. They already reconize me so.. they
might
already
know my name, but i doubt it. And then show them around if they
wanted
me
too. Invite them over to sing karaoke, play some basketball, fish,or
whatever
they wanted to do. - Sara
Well, I'd take them out to dinner - Acapulco Joe's for chimichangas!
Then
shopping at Circle Centre! And finally, when the season begins,
the
Arena
Football Firebirds (they start their inaugural season in April)!
- Ethan
They'd probably have packing and stuff to do first so I'd go
over and
say hi
(they know who I am) and offer to help. Afterwards they probably
wouldn't
feel like cooking so I'd take all 5 of them to Lava Links (it's
this
arcade
with mini golf and laser tag) and we'd eat pizza. The next day
I'd take
them
to Mall of America and give them a tour. Go on rides with Kiaya,
Amanda,
and
Tyler :) - Tracey
Let's see. Hmmmmm, I know. They travel a lot, right? Especially
in
the
summer. I'd volunteer Sara to mow their lawn for them while
they're
gone.
I, of course, would supervise to make sure it's done properly.
LOL.
(If
you reverse those roles, it might reflect reality just a little
more
closely). - David
I never talk to my neighbors, but I think I'd find the time
to welcome
them. Make sure that I got on their good sides so that I could
creep in
to their lives and whisk Tyler away to an island where we'd
be
"accidentally" stranded and have to re-populate the
island. Nice. -
Allison
*Comment: The Wilkinson's (especially Tyler), if you read this,
we
apologize and hope you're not offended, we told her you guys
might see
it and she didn't care, she wanted the truth to be heard so
there it is.
That's hard. Probably show them around town: all the stuff
we have here
(which isn't much) And buy 10,000 snow cones like Jesse did
in Full
House to put in their backyard so it feels like they're in Canada
:-) -

isn't
there to like?!?!?!?! - Elizabeth
my answer is A i absolutly love it - Janelle
A) I loved it
Keep those hits coming guys=) - Love, Stacey XOXOXOXOXO
I guess I'll pick (D), which stands for the lone Dissenter.
LOL. I
certainly appreciate the song having a fiddle in it. Keep it
coming.
The song's not exactly my favorite, because it's just not "my
type" of
song. Just call me a sucker for ballads and songs like "Shame
on Me".
The song should do well, though. Probably better than JGAGF.
(Great,
now I've probably jinxed it). - David
I would have to probably say B. It's not my favorite of their
songs,
but I'll live. In my opinion, there's not enough Tyler in the
video,
and it scares me a bit that we've got Tyler and Steve singing
"I want to
be that girl." I don't know if it's just me on that one,
but it
frightens me. It's a catchy song all the same and I of course
wish them
the best of luck and hope it gets some radio play. - Allison
I'll pick A. - Michelle
I love it! It's really catchy and just a really fun song to
listen to
and even more, to see performed live! - Tracey

Why you should be member of the month: The wilkinsons are my
favorite
band in the world! I really look up to them for inspiration.
They are
all good role models, especially today when people like Eminem
are
winning grammys, the wilkinsons are still goin strong representing
the
family image and showing people that families rock!

So One Wilkinson Said to the Other...
"I hear Mercury signed a fetus." - Steve (on all
the young acts lately)
"So usually if you're in a posse and you've got peeps you
have some
bling bling." - Tyler
"You gotta get the bling bling." - Amanda
"I'm gonna get you like a Mickey mouse like diamond bling
bling
necklace." - Tyler
"Right now, according to immigration, we are here under
what they call
an 01 Visa, which is a performance visa. I love this, we're
considered
"Aliens with extraordinary ability". How do you like
that?" - Steve
And the good thing is our fans, I think, still treat us like
normal
people. They know that we're a family. It's more like having
your
relatives out there. Really, they're cool about it. - Amanda
(on fame)
"I was supposed to sing the song but quite personally I
wasn't getting
the heart and soul that needed to be in the song and uh I just
didn't
think it was me so I just said what the heck I'll pass it onto
Amanda."
- Tyler (on I Wanna Be That Girl)
*Note for those of you that didn't listen to After Midnite
Bling Bling
is like gold and stuff.
