References to Popular Culture in TimeSplitters

By Drifting

he TimeSplitters series contains many references to popular culture, some obscure, some obvious. Here I'll list all of them for your viewing pleasure.

Have more? Send them in!

Aliens!

In the first level of TSFP's Story mode Time To Split one of the soldiers says, "They're coming out of the walls! They're coming out of the goddamn walls!" at the point where you fend off the 'Splitters with the mounted plasma gun. This is a reference to the movie Aliens.

More Aliens!

Another reference to Aliens occurs in the middle of the U-Genix level, a guard backing up while shooting from a corner will say "Game over man, Game Over!" - Thanks Duckman Drake!

Do I Have Red On Me?

Clip Clamp's quote on the character select screen is, "Do I have red on me?" For those of you who have seen the film Shaun of the Dead you'll probably pick up on this as a reference to that film's main catch phrase immediately.

Harry Tipper is 007

Most of the charactrs featured in the Harry Tipper levels are parodies of James Bond characters. Harry is a humorous parody of 007 with a bit of Austin Powers thrown in, Kitten Celeste is the quintessential busty Bond girl, and Khallos the evil villain.

On the Train

The Khallos Express story level is very similar to the Train level from GoldenEye. Especially note the bathrooms, train compartments, and the threat of the train blowing up in both games.

Another Note on Khallos

"Khallos himself is obviously and well known to have been based on Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the villain from the Bond films. However, not many have noted a small fact from the movies, which I recently noticed. Quote from Wiki: "In both the film and the novel Thunderball, the physical headquarters of the organisation are laid in Paris, operating behind the front of an international organization aiding refugees (FIRCO in the novels; International Brotherhood for the Assistance of Stateless Persons in the films). I'm thinking that the Brotherhood of Ultra Science is a reference to this." - Thanks Shock Trooper

Watch Out for the Laser!

The opening FMV sequence for Atomsmasher in TS2 is a reference to the infamous scene in Goldfinger where Goldfinger threatens to split Bond in half with his gold laser. This is also where Bond's famous quip "Do you expect me to talk?" is met by Goldfinger's "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die" line.
