Oklahoma City, OK Deep Deuce Sign
Deep Deuce is famous for being an African American hub of Oklahoma City, and a center of the city's culture. I am glad that its remains have been declared an "historic district," because now this history will be more acknowledged. But we must never forget that Deep Deuce's history didn't stop developers in the 60's from driving I-235 through it (see the Wikipedia article on this neighborhood.) As this neighborhood continues to grow, we should celebrate it and honor its legacy. One way to do this is to consider who looses out in urban planning and urban renewal projects and to find ways to protect our citizens and our heritage.
