Chapter Twenty-Five

"No way!" Courtney declared.
"Yes, way!" Nick grinned. "I went to pick him up, because the doctor called me and said he was crying out in his sleep for Leigh. He said he called a Lauren girl and she came and stayed but left at 6 in the morning. He was curled in a ball sobbing his eyes out. He said she promised not to leave him. Then she left."
"Who?" Courtney asked with a confused expression.
"Lauren." Nick said smugly.
"I don't believe it." Courtney sighed as she leaned into her boyfriend's arms. "I love you."
"I love you, too," he whispered kissing her forehead.

Two Days Later
"Brian!" Nick declared waving his arms wildly at his friend. Brian nodded to show acknowledgment, but continued to look down as he walked. "Brian," nick called catching up to his friend. Nick placed his hand on Brian's shoulder and felt him jump a little.
"Nickolas," Brian said coldly. Nick smiled as he tried to regain his breath.
"Brian, I have to tell you something. I'm researching Leighanne's death. It just doesn't make any sense to me. I truly believe there's more to it than everyone beliefs." Brian met eyes with his once best friend and stared right through to his soul.
"Nick, don't you think I've suffered enough? Please, just let me be." His eyes pleaded with Nick's as a fire began to shine through in his once crystal clear blue eyes.
"Sorry. Brian I'm sorry. I've already learned something. I know they should have told you this, but they are planning on waiting, they will tell you. Brian, Leighanne was pregnant when she crashed. She was four months along to be exact. She did switch her doctor three weeks before she died. Odd or what?"

Brian closed his eyes as he braced himself against his friend. Tears began to fill up behind his eyelids. "Leave me and my family alone," he warned walking away from a bewildered young man. Brian let the tears fall as he entered his home and collapsed behind the shut door. Not only had he lost his wife, his first love, his only true love, but he had also lost the love of a child he would never know. He laughed bitterly, "Rhianna Christine," he began to cry. "Or Patrick Gene," he placed his head in his hands as he cried out the names he had for his dead child. He cried for Rhianna or Patrick. He cried for Tommie. He cried for Katie. But most of all Brian cried for himself. He was no longer a believer in god, god was Satan himself. Brian choked back the huge sobs and saw a figure out of the corner of his eye, as he heard cried that mimicked his own.

"Brian Littrell," a female voice sang. Brian cried harder as the blurry figure came into full view.
"Courtney," he sobbed.
"C'mere Brian, I'll hold you tonight," Brian nodded as she kneeled down next to him and began to cradle him in her arms.
Brian cried himself to sleep in his friend's arms, the only person who could possibly feel the pain that ate at his heart and soul was Leighanne's best friend.

Courtney felt the last sob come from her friend and knew he was finally asleep. Loosing his cousin was one of the hardest things for Brian to go through, now he had lost his wife for the second time in one year.

"Saying goodbye to you once is enough for me Leighanne Wallace," he snorted.
"Brian. I'm sorry, I do love you! It's just too hard to understand now."
"I guess Charles understands?" Brian spat moving closer to her frail frame. "Did you enjoy your time with him? Did he please you like I couldn't? Huh? What the hell was wrong with me?" Brian grabbed her shoulders and began to scream and shake her shoulders violently.
"BRIAN!" She sobbed. "STO--P! Please!" She cried as he let go of her sobbing body and watched as he body fell to the floor. He turned and walked away shaking his head. "Please Bear, I'm sorry!" She sobbed trying to stand up.
"Walk away, Leighanne, just walk away. Once is enough." He cried walking away from his foyer.

Brian sprung forward from his sleeping position and shivered. His heart was pounding and he was drenched in his own sweat. He didn't even know the screaming was coming from his own mouth until Courtney came running through his door asking him if he okay.
"Sorry, Ney, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to wake you." He pleaded his case with a yawning Courtney.
"It's ok Brian, I was on the phone with Nickolas anyway.
"Where's he anyway?"
"New York with my sister, she owns an Advertising Agency in Timer Square actually, she's very talented. They're working on the BSB come back promotions. And Carter Productions. She's a huge Backstreet fan." Brian's face fell. A comeback album? Brian had lost his career when Kevin died. Backstreet's world fell apart with two slits from their leader. Alex began drinking again, and reentered rehab after being sober for nearly five years. Nick stopped eating, Howie stopped talking and withdrew himself from everyone, even his wife. The only thing keeping Brian alive was his wife. Now his lifeline was gone. His felt dead inside. His life was gone.
