Chapter Twenty-Seven

"I leave for two weeks and dang! Candi you replace me that quickly?" The male cried. Nick watched as Candice approached the figure slowly.
"It wasn't that easy," she swayed closer to the man.
"He's not you, David." She kissed his lips lightly as he wrapped his arms around her waist tightly. "This is Courtney's boyfriend, Nickolas Carter," the man broke into a smile as his gaze fell upon Nick.
"Hello, Nick. I'm David, Candice's husband." Nick felt a little out of breath, he didn't know she was married. He shook her husbands hand and stepped back, they made a very striking couple, he was 5'8" to her 5'4," and he had dark brown hair to her light blonde, and dark eyes compared to her intense blue eyes.
"How old are you Candice?" Nick asked suddenly taking her a little off guard.
"I'm 26, thank you very much." She smiled and winked at a still confused Nick. "He's 26, too," she tossed her husbands hair causing him to yelp. "We've been married for three years, no kids, both have careers in business/arts. David's a director.
"Wow," Nick smiled. They were so happy, the love shown in their eyes, as strong as could be, Nick's smiled began to fade when he thought of another couple who once, too, had been in love; Leighanne and Brian. Nick didn't realize he was crying until he felt an unfamiliar pair of arms wrap around his shaking body
"They loved each other, I'm sure they never stopped loving one another. They just became blind to one anthers love after career's grew and fell," Nick felt his heart rate quicken, as an idea popped into his head.
"Leighanne was pregnant with their third child. Why would she want a divorce?" Candice shrugged. "I need to contact Charles Reed!"
"He lives in New York this time of year," David chimed in matter-of-factly. "I think I have his home phone number, I used to gold with him.
"Will you get it for Nickolas, please, sweetie?" David smiled and walked out of the room. Nick noticed how Candice glowed next to her husband.

"How did you know?" Candice shook her head and toward her body toward Nick's as the stood near the doorway of her bedroom.
"Know what Hun?"
"Know that David was the one for you." Nick said with stars shining in his eyes.
"David and I met when we were sixteen years old. We worked together for six months and one day, this, I dunno this attraction just formed." Candice grinned.
"I couldn't stop thinking about him. It always put a smile on my face knowing I would see him. He was my prefect guy. I had this list of what I really wanted in a guy, and when I met David that list was thrown away. He blew any made up guy out of the water." David entered the room silently with a thick leather bound black book. "Finally when I couldn't go a day without thinking about him, that was it. I knew, even if he didn't return the feelings, that he was my soulmate." David laughed. "Not that old story," Candice grinned.
"Yes, David! That old story. I like the story!"
"You were so weird, I loved you for that the most. She was and still is pretty. Back then she was this slim blonde, with a personality, my word. I was so scared to ask her out." He turned his attention to Nick. "I couldn't bare the thought of her saying no."

"After a year of flirting and hanging out as friends. I became so scared he would never ask me out!" Candice laughed and poked at her husband's side.
"But I did! Remember? The Christmas party at work, it was so funny, everyone at the party knew besides her!" Nick sat in amazement.
"Well, Nicky, is Courtney your soulmate?" Nick swallowed hard.
"I don't think I can live without her, I love her with my whole heart, but," he sighed looking Candice dead in the eye. "I have doubts too."
"Nicky everyone has doubts," Candice chuckled. "But in the end, if you can still say you love her and mean it with ever ounce of your life, well Nick that's love. You can't escape the feeling. It's a rush."
