"Talk to Nicky lately," Brian asked sitting down at the breakfast table next to Courtney.
"No. I called and Candice said he was out." Courtney sighed.
"Isn't it like 7 in the morning there?"
"Yes."
"I thought Nick doesn't even think about waking up until noon?"
"The new Nick does." Courtney frowned.
"New Nick?" Brian raised an eyebrow.
"He thinks I don't see it. I do." Tears filled her eyes. Brian wrapped his arms around her tightly as the tears began to flow freely down her cheeks.
"Ever since the day Leighanne well, Leighanne declared divorce, Nick grew up ten years in that one week. He acts so old, he doesn't show emotion. His eyes don't fill with excitement anymore. He's withdrawn himself from life. He's so serious." Brian looked at his friend in disbelief.
"He's almost 26 years old! He should be damn serious!" Courtney's tears stopped as she turned her head at a now erect Brian. "He grew up and you can't believe it. Do not FUCKING pin this on Leighanne! You're young! Too Damn young! You can't help but be infatuated with Nick; you're no different from the rest. You're just another girlfriend." Brian spat as he leaned over her. "Have you fallen out of love with Nickolas?" Brian's eyes burned into her soul. Tears threaten to spill over her eyelids as his stare grew in intensity.
"No!" She cried. "I have and will always love Nick!" She screamed standing up and pushing Brian away from her. "Just because life screwed you over Brian Littrell doesn't mean I can't be happy! I lost Leighanne too!" Brian turned and began walking away from her still sobbing figure; she never saw the tear that slowly slid down his cheek. "I lost her twice, and my baby."
"Ok," Nick sat down with a stack of papers across from a not completely awake David.
"My god! It's 7 am!" David yawned sitting over his coffee. "And it's Sunday!"
Nick smiled up as David yawned again. "So? I've found some very interesting information on Mr. Reed. It seems as though his real name is, get this, Leeward Douglas, Ph.D., he's a doctor."
"I knew that," David drank his coffee casually. "Actually he's a cancer specialist, brain tumors to be exact." Nick's jaw dropped open.
"That means," he trailed off. "Did you find that number Dave?"
"Yes," he smiled and handed a very eager Nick a small sheet of paper. Nick's mind raced as he stared down at the phone. This was his greatest discovery. This man knew the secret to Leighanne's death, maybe even her life. Nick took at deep breath. This. Was. It.
