March - Turtle Nesting Season beginsAruba, year-round home to the Hawskbill, Green Turtle and Loggerhead, is also visited by the largest of the sea turtle family, the Leatherback, during the island's Turtle Nesting Season. Aruba fields of sea grass, accessible by shore dive, on the island's northwest coast provide shelter and food for these endangered species. March 29 - Aruba Marine Life SymposiumLocal and international marine experts will lecture on the importance of the marine environment and the state of Aruba's ecosystem in particular. Local dive operators will also be on hand to organize exhibits and give presentations. July 4-5 - Aruba Reef Care ProjectAs part of an ongoing awareness campaign, local and visiting divers team up for a weekend clean-up of the island's most popular dive sites. The annual project is important in bringing attention to the island's precious marine ecosystem and the eventual establishment of the Aruba Marine Park. Record-breaking Visibility at Western ShoreEach year, during the autumn months, visibility is traditionally best for the Western shore dive sites such as the Antilla, Pedernalis and Bao Baranca. September/October - Coral Spawning SeasonFor a few short nights, island-wide coral spawning takes place during two months of the year. November/December - Calm SeasAt this time of year, seas are traditionally calm, allowing access to the nurse shark caves and other hard-to-get-to sites such as Bachelor's Beach, Andicuri, etc. |
