Chapter 41

"What the hell do you think you're doin'," the voice growled angrily.
"Dad," she yipped.
"What the FUCK are you doing?"
"Daddy," she whispered sitting across from him at the table.
"What the fuck do you think you're doin'?" He asked slowly for the third time. "First you go away for a week not telling ANYONE! You're pregnant!"
"Dad, I know," she looked down.
"Now, where did you go? And why did James move out?"
"Dad, James and I were never officially dating and Nick came up," she tugged on the hem of her shirt.
"Not this fucking Florida fantasy again!"
"Daddy, I love him!"
"Like you loved Pat, Steve, James?" Candice choked back tears. Not one person in her family understood. When Pat died, they didn't console her, they just told her to forget about him. Her dad thought she was ok, acted like he understood. He didn't!

"Fuck you Dad! I loved--love Pat! No one will ever replace him! I love him with all my heart," tears streamed down her face. "He died."
"And who's fault is that? He went to see you, he stayed You're lucky to be alive yourself!" Candice told herself to stop the tears, to be strong. It didn't work, she used all her strength to at least try and stop them, they only fall harder. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her own father blamed her for the love of her life's death.

"Oh, stop with this Florida shit," her father stood up. "Get out of my house!"
"Dad," she gasped for air.
"Candice," he whispered turning to face his daughter only to see her hit the ground.
"Don't call Nick," she whispered giving into the darkness.

"Candi babe, phone for you," a low voice said gently.
"Huh?" Candice moaned rubbing her head.
"Candi, it's me Amanda, I came to see you," her best friend smiled as she handed Candice a green cell phone.
"Hello," Candice asked groggily.
"Hey Candi Sup?" A cheerful voice nearly screamed.
"Mandy!"
"Yeah long time no talk!"
"Yeah, how are you anyway girly? You're busy right?"
"Extremely. Hey have you talked to Nick?"
"Yeah," Candice said quietly rubbing her elbow.
"When?"
"What is today," Candice asked rubbing her head, the pain was growing worse.
"Um..Tuesday. Why?"
"Wow," Candice looked at her surroundings. "Where am I?"
"Are you ok," Mandy asked growing concerned and scared.
"Oh yeah I just fainted yesterday morning. I'm cool now."
"Ok, cuz if you dun feel good I can always call you back."
"Naw. I just got back from Florida actually, I'm moving down there." Dizziness began to take over her body again.
"Are you ok," her best friend asked rushing over to her hospital bed.
"I"m cool," Candice mouthed to her friend. "Mandy what's wrong with Nick?"
"Nothin' I just miss him that's all," her voice trailed off. Candice smiled, she knew now what she had to do.
"Mandy call me back tomorrow k," Candice asked closing her eyes.
"Sure! Love ya girly..get better!"
"Bye Mandy," Candice opened her eyes. "What's wrong with the baby Amanda Faye?" Her friend took a deep breath and closed her own eyes.

"Your baby is dead," tears filled Candice's eyes and she didn't even try to fight them.
"How," Candice asked in a low tone.
"You were under way to much stress, the doctor said you weren't eating right. It was either you or the baby, and you won! Why didn't you eat? I TOLD YOU TO EAT!"
"Call Nick," Candice whispered.
"CANDICE!"

"Fuckin' call him now!" Candice winced in pain as she moved forward in the bed. "SHIT!" Amanda grabbed Candice's cell phone and hit speed dial. Candice took the phone away from her friend just in time for Nick's answering machine. "Dammit Nick why aren't you home?" Candice said a loud. "Ok Nick..it's me. I've got trouble down here, but don't worry bout that. I'm not moving down to Tampa. I don't love you Nick." Candice felt tears trickling down her cheeks as she hung the phone up. Amanda shared at her friend in shock.
"Don't ask Manda, it's for the best, trust me." Amanda just nodded as she stared at the now steady stream of tears flowing down her best friends cheeks. "You trust me?"
"Yea-yeah," she stammered.
"OK now here's what we're gonna do," Candice began to tell her the plan she called. "WillforCarter."
"Are you sure Candice," Amanda asked after hearing her friends plan.
"Hell yes! It's perfect, I can't believe I didn't see it before. Now I know why Pat told me to stay friends with Nick, not to date him, to be friends. Now get me my phone book, please." Amanda sighed and reached for Candice's purse. Her friend was almost always right after all, ALMOST that is.

-An hour later-

"Hey Nick," Candice smiled.
"You called. What's wrong?"
"Nick, I was wrong. I know what you've been sad about and it's not me."
"What the hell?"
"Nick, look outside your door," Candice grinned from ear to ear knowing what Nick saw. He walked slowly over to his door, phone still near his ear. He gasp then dropped the phone wrapping his arms around her tightly, finally he had found what he was looking for in this world of chaos.
"I have faith Nickolas," Candice smiled hanging up her phone. "I love you..."
