Character
Background:
Thallus has lived a quiet life with the Elderbeard Clan residing within
the Dragon's Tooth Mountains west of the Kingdom of Cazia. His abilities
as a Sorcerer remained mostly unnoticed, even to himself, until late into
his 40th year. The elders of his clan were confused about his abilities as
it had been several thousand years (the Age of the Fey) since the last occurrence
of 'natural magic'. However, Thallus was a peaceful fellow taken more to
carving toys than to taking up the sword so his family saw little reason
to feel threatened by him. Through the years of his youth Thallus spent
many of them traveling the lands around the Dragon's Tooth Mountains and
has become well known among the human communities as the 'Toymaker', a
jolly dwarf who would pass through occasionally and bring toys for the
young ones.
However, Thallus's life was about to
take a rather strange turn. During the summer solstice a strange sensation
came over Thallus and his energy surged forth from within sending a pillar
of fire high into the sky. Several buildings within his village caught
aflame and the family was hard-pressed to put them out before anyone was
injured. For the first time, people began to fear what Thallus was capable
of doing even though he himself did not know the source of the magic.
Rumors began to fly that Thallus was possessed by some greater and evil
source and when reports came in that dark dragons had been seen crossing
the mountains once again for the first time in over five hundred years
Thallus found himself under fire once again. Not long after travelers
began to trickle in from across the lands with stories of people who had
produced strange pillars of fire and who were able to call upon natural
magic, much as could Thallus, seven of them in fact. They also brought
stories of great dragons sweeping across the lands once again laying
claims to those places which they once called their homes.
Not knowing what to do, the Council of
Elders bid that Thallus himself travel abroad and find these other
'Sorcerers' and learn the source of their power. Many feared Thallus now
and sending him away seemed inevitable and sending him after the other
magic-users seemed to be a wise decision as well. Thus Thallus traveled
down out of his mountain home once again on a quest to learn the secret
origin of his powers and once again bring peace to his meager life.
