INTRODUCTION TO FACEPLATE WORK
|
||||||||||||
Faceplate
setups incorporate nuts, bolts, angle plates and clamps. More often than not,
a greater portion of the workpiece and tackle will be positioned to one side
of centre. This amount of offset puts the faceplate out of balance; out of balance
is not acceptable and must be corrected. Correction is by adding counter balance
weights. Counter balance weights are estimated by assessing the amount of excess metal (volume) to one side of centre. Single weight will equal the amount of volume assessed, two weights will equal half the amount. By calculation, 1cubic centimetre of iron or steel weighs 0.008kg. |

showing a setup involving the use of an angle plate and setting spigot. A setting spigot and slip gauges are used for accurate positioning of the angle plate. It is easier to perform faceplate setups with the faceplate removed, on small to medium size lathes. |
