Part 139
Sarah and Howie had spent Friday and Saturday sight-seeing during the day and out clubbing at night. They had to take Billy and Raoul, of course, but it was well worth it. They were enjoying being together.
They’d been out late Saturday…well, more like early Sunday morning, and were sleeping in Sunday. Unfortunately, their sleep as well as their honeymoon was to be interrupted by one simple phone call.
The ringing of the phone woke Sarah and sleepily, she reached for it as Howie mumbled in his sleep, "I don’t wanna get up, Mama…it’s not time to go to school."
"Hello," yawned Sarah.
"Hey, beautiful…Did I wake ya?"
"Nick?"
"Who else?"
Grumbling, Sarah said, "This better be good blonde boy…waking me at…" looking at Howie’s watch to see that it was only six in the morning. "Damnint, Nick…it’s 6 o’clock in the fucking morning."
"Watch your language!" scolded Nick. "It’s Sunday. Jeez…you sure are grouchy in the morning. Isn’t D keeping you satisfied?"
Sarah heard Becca scolding Nick in the background as she said, "Bite me, Nickolas!"
"Naw…I’m not into brunettes…too tough. Where’s your better half?"
"Asleep…like a NORMAL person."
"Let me talk to him."
"And you think I’m grouchy," muttered Sarah. Rolling over, Sarah nudged Howie. "D, wake up. The blonde wonder wants to talk to you."
Grumbling, Howie asked, "What does he want?"
"Don’t know….Nick, what do you want?"
"To talk to Howie."
"Smartass…D, he won’t say."
Howie took the phone. "Nick…what could you POSSIBLY want at…"
Sarah whispered, "Six o’clock."
"CHRIST, NICK!"
"What’s with you two?" question Nick aggravated. "Normally you two would have BEEN up LONG before now."
"We’re on our HONEYMOON, Nick."
"So…you’ve got all day to…."
"Get to the point, Nick. Why did you call?" growled Howie.
As Howie talked on the phone, Sarah began placing kisses along his chest and running her hand across his stomach reaching to stroke him. She heard the change in his voice as he grabbed her hand to stop her.
"When does she need to be there?"
"Who?" asked Sarah.
"Fine…we’ll be there as soon as we can. I’m gonna try to get Kevin to meet us at the studio in LA to rehearse the stuff Alex did for her and my stuff I’ve written for her."
"Thanks, D! We’ll see you some time Tuesday."
Howie reached across Sarah to hang up and kissed her as he brushed her hair back.
"What’s going on, D?"
"Aaron’s opening act bailed on him and Leslie can’t do it."
"And Nick can’t either."
"Yeah…Nick thought it would be good experience for you so he asked me."
"And you didn’t bother to ask me?"
Howie laughed, "As your boss, there wasn’t any need to ask. You’re gonna do it."
"Says who?"
"I just told you…ME. I have to get up and get us a flight to LA and I need to call Kevin to have him meet us there. Get a move on so we can leave as soon as I have us a flight out of here. You know how you are with the morning sickness. I don’t want to be late."
Sarah sank back into the pillows as Howie got up to start making the necessary arrangements but he heard her mumble, "So much for staying here until we have to go back out on the road."
Howie looked at her seeing the disappointment in her eyes. He stopped and sat beside her on the bed. He brushed her hair back and kissed her tenderly. "Angel, I’m sorry but you really do need to do this. It’ll be good experience for you."
Sighing, she said, "I know, Howie. I was just getting use to it being JUST US. We won’t get that when the babies are born…or when you guys hit the road again."
Howie brushed her cheek with his fingers. "I promise…we’ll take at least one day a week for just us, Angel…so we don’t forget about us."
