Part 544
Breakfast was a quiet, subdued affair, with everyone doing their best to keep quiet for Becca’s sake. Every time a knife or fork clinked against the china she’d wince, and when one of the waitresses dropped a tray of dirty dishes, they all thought Becca would keel over. Nick and AJ managed to shield her from Sarah by each sitting on one side of her, but no one could shield her from Kevin.
"Nice party, Bec," he said with a smile, knowing full well how miserable she was.
"Thanks," she said.
"Great food, great dancing," he continued. "The music was awesome, wasn’t it?"
"Mm hmm."
"I don’t think I’ve ever heard that much Greek music in one evening before. I might have to get me some CDs to listen to backstage." He winked at AJ, who simply rolled his eyes and rubbed the back of Becca’s neck. He knew how lousy she felt and knew she’d probably sworn off drinking all together.
"And you Bec, you surprised the hell outta me. I had no idea you were such a good dancer."
Nick spit his juice all over the table. "Kev-"
Becca rubbed her temples as Kevin droned on and on.
"I know you must be plumb worn out, Bec. It’s too bad you can’t hang out in the room this afternoon and grab a nap."
"Kev, we don’t have any plans for today, so there’s no reason Bec can’t-"
"Travel Nick," Kevin answered. "There’s no show tonight, but we board the buses in two hours."
"The buses?" Becca squeaked.
"Change in plans, Bec. We have a promo thing to do in the morning so we need to be there bright and early. Besides, you can sleep on the bus, right?"
Becca looked at Kevin who had a look of pure innocence on his face. "Right," she answered with gritted teeth. "I can sleep on the bus." Just the thought of riding on a bus, and the continuous rocking motion it entailed, was nearly enough to make her lose her breakfast. Tossing her napkin on the table she excused herself to go pack.
Nick watched her retreating back and shot a look at Kevin. "You know, Bec doesn’t get mad very often."
"I’ve noticed," Kevin smiled.
"But she DOES get even." Nick smirked, picked up Garrett’s carrier and followed his wife upstairs.
