Game Sequels:
AGAINST
|
Surely it would be impossible to argue that
sequels actually benefit the games community. The world is built on ideas. Without new ideas, we wouldn't have programming, the Internet, or even computers themselves. Sequels hinder progress.
It's a proven fact sequels and treading familiar
ground in games is popular. In fact, that works with any industry. Look at Westlife or Hear'Say- or movies such as 'Mission: Impossible 2' to see what I mean. They don't offer anything new, just the same processed and re-processed money spinning ideas. And it works.
They know they are slowing down the
industry, and they don't care. They know it's the original developers who bring in the new ideas, and they know they can 'borrow' any idea they want. But it's the original ideas that win the awards. It's those that stop the games world from stagnating- rotting, dying.
There is a danger the games world will
become ALL sequels. This can't happen. If it does, this 30+ year old media form of computer games- still young in media terms- will disappear.
Originality in games like Galerians are
becoming a dying breed as small developers cash in on the stupidity of the mainstream. At that point those 'developers' who create these 'games' become corporate businesses, their sole aim being to make as much money as possible. They don't care how much quality and/or dignity is lost along the way. Can we let this happen?
Don't buy these games. Don't you like to try
out new ideas? Surely you can't be scared of trying something new?
A lot of people are. They're called the
'mainstream'. Do these people even have personalities? All they seem to do is buy what the PR people tell them to. That's how Westlife sells.
PLEASE don't let this happen. Don't let our
media suffer at the hands of these people. After all, you wouldn't actively deface an entire industry, would you? |
