Game Sequels:
FOR
|
All developers need income. You can't just run
any games company on 'good intentions'. No company can constantly afford to shell out £££ millions on a game that may gross less than the cost to produce it.
So what's wrong with sequels? Less needs to
be spent on developing on a sequel than on developing a completely new game, and covering costs and building a small 'money cushion' on top of that- should the company start to struggle- is surely a good thing, isn't it?
Besides, if the game isn't broken, don't fix it.
You're being offered a tried and tested winning formula, tweaked and altered to the point of near perfection. Just look at the best games of today- Gran Turismo 3, Metal Gear Solid 2, Shenmue 2, Sonic Adventure, Mario 64, Legend of Zelda- Ocarina of Time...
All sequels. The originals in each series were
good, but the series just gets better and better. And isn't that what this industry needs? Polished, mainstream games to bring in people that normally wouldn't play that game.
Every industry is built on mainstream markets.
Look at what the likes of 'Charlie's Angels', 'Mission: Impossible 2', and 'Jurassic Park' have done for the movie industry. Look at what Westlife or Limp Bizkit have done for their respective music genres. Look at what the likes of ' Harry Potter' have done for the book industry.
They open people's eyes. They encourage
people the read, to listen to music, to go to the cinema...to play computer games.
Let sequels continue. The games industry
NEEDS the public, the games industry NEEDS sequels. |
