Console Wars:
SONY
PLAYSTATION 2 |
CONSOLE DESIGN
|
Until the PS2 came along consoles had a
reputation for being good-looking. SNES, Dreamcast, even PS1- all beautifully crafted boxes of joy. And now, this. A cross between a coffin and a VCR, the PS2 isn't really relying on looks here. Plus, it can do tricks! Stand on your side... there's a good console.
It is quite sturdy, though. European gamers
haven't had any technical problems. Machine fan noise and a breakable CD tray are a few of the minor complaints levelled at the PS2.
The DualShock controller works as well as it
used to do with the PS1, being easy to grip. It also has well placed buttons. The analogue sticks are inaccurate and difficult to control compared with the X-box and Gamecube, though, and the analogue buttons are completely useless technology. |

OTHER NOTES
|
Playstation 2 already has a foothold in the
games market in all three main territories- Japan, USA and Europe, selling mainly off the back of PS1. Some of the more recent games are also selling points to be proud of. Unfortunately, many small developers are still struggling with the programming code, and many larger ones seem happy to cash in on their popular game sequels alone.
PS2 is the console for gamers who like to
'play it safe'. |
