COLLIER'S METHODIST CHURCH ORGANIZED IN 1836

Five years prior to 1841 when Caldwell County was chartered,

Collier's Methodist Church was organized.
Now, 130 years and five buildings later, this church -- one of Caldwell County's oldest is still serving at its location at the intersection of the Connelly Springs and Clark's Chapel roads.

FORMED IN 1836

In 1836, when the church was formed, it had one acre of land which was given by Rev. George Collier of Burke County, and another acre given by a Mr Bush. The two acre plot was location of Collier's Cemetery, and here the first building was erected. This area had earlier been used as the site for camp meetings by area residents. Eye witness accounts from that day indicate that "camp meeting time at Collier's meeting house" was popular among the people, and many persons attended those get-togerthers. The first building lasted for several years until it was replaced with another, still in the present cemetery location.
