DIRECTIONS TO THE HILLTOP HOUSE

• via Northern Virginia

  • From the Beltway (I-495), go west on the Dulles Toll Road (Rt. 267). Continue on the Dulles Greenway (also a toll road).*

  • At the end of the Greenway, go west on Virginia Rt. 7. *

  • Take the exit for Virginia Rt. 9 and turn right towards Charles Town.

  • After several miles (slow down to 25 mph in Hillsboro—it’s a speed trap), turn right onto Virginia Rt. 671.

  • Rt. 671 ends at US Rt. 340. Turn left onto Rt. 340 (Be careful—it’s a nasty intersection).

• via Suburban Maryland

  • From the Beltway (I-495), go north on I-270 to Frederick, MD

  • Go west on US Rt. 340 across the Potomac River and continue

• Do NOT follow the signs to Harpers Ferry or the National Park.

• After crossing the Shenandoah River, take the second right onto Union Street. There is a Comfort Inn at that intersection. Follow the "From Union Street" directions below.

     * (Alternate route, but much slower: Take I-66 to Virginia Rt. 28 to Rt. 7 West.)

• Take I-70 West to the US Rt. 340 exit.

• Go south on US Rt. 340 into Virginia, then into West Virginia. ).

• Do NOT follow the signs to Harper’s Ferry or the National Park.

• After crossing the Shenandoah River, take the second right onto Union Street. There is a Comfort Inn at that intersection. Follow the "From Union Street" directions below.

• Take I-81 South into West Virginia.

• Take the exit for West Virginia Rt. 45 East.

• Go through several lights and end up on West Virginia Rt. 9.

• Take Rt. 9 East to US Rt. 340 North.

• After passing the entrance to the National Park on the right, make a left onto Union Street at the Comfort Inn. Follow the "From Union Street" directions below.

• Union Street ends at Washington Street.

• Turn right onto Washington Street and enter the town of Harpers Ferry.

• After going up the hill, turn left onto Columbia Street—you will see a sign for the Hilltop House there.

• When Columbia Street ends after two blocks, turn right onto East Ridge Street. The Hilltop House is located at the end of the street.

     BY AIR

     The best airport to use is Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).

     BY TRAIN

     There is a train station in the town of Harpers Ferry. Amtrak offers once-a-day service on The Capital Limited, with direct service from Washington DC and, from the east, Chicago, Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

There is additional service on MARC, the Maryland Commuter train from Washington DC to Harpers Ferry. This service only runs on Weekdays.
