Bringing Purity to South Africa

Purpose of this site: To share my (Jaime Rau’s) vision and heart for South Africa in hope of discovering where God can use my experience, skills, and enthusiasm best to fight AIDS, encourage sexual abstinence, and share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Introduction: Molo (that’s “hello” in Xhosa), my name is Jaime, also known as Nobuhle in S. Africa. I am the founder and President of Purely Committed, a three year old student led organization dedicated to encouraging our peers to save sex for marriage. I graduated from Westmont College with a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Communication studies.

Through my experience leading the non-profit Purely Committed I have developed a knowledge and passion in the area of sexual abstinence. I feel this is the issue God has laid specifically on my heart in order to bring people closer to Christ and his plan as they learn of the incredible blessing he offers through marriage and family based on his principles of purity and commitment. My involvement in this area is my contribution to building healthier and happier families, the way they were intended.

My heart for the families of South Africa has grown with a deep rooted compassion since my recent endeavor in Cape Town last August. I was invited by a missionary’s ministry called “Bridges of Hope,” to bring Purely Committed’s abstinence program to the township of Philippi. 165 youth were introduced, for the first time, to God’s expectation of sexual abstinence until marriage. The impact the conference was able to make in such a short amount of time was reassuring and at the same time overwhelming, as it was evident that the youth were given hope by the message but craved and needed so much more then I was able to offer through a one day event. One young man talked to me afterward and said, “I’m bringing this information to my girlfriend, but she needs to hear it like I have, and so do my parents. Maybe you come back for a year, or two, or forever.” Getting on the plane to return to the US was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. As the plane left the runway I asked God that, if it be in his will, I would be able to return to bring hope and peace to those who live in fear daily as AIDS torments the nation.

I invite you to learn more about Purely Committed, South Africa, and how you can help me through visiting the pages listed above.
