Fifth Avenue and 42nd St.

One of F.O.C. Darley's most dramatic compositions, Elisabeth Grace and Rachel Martin depicts two young women who disguised themselves as men in order to intercept British dispatches.
The unusual subjects were based on accounts in Elizabeth Fries Ellet's

Women of the American Revolution.
