Second Grade Suggested Readings

Colors of the Earth The selection of best books for second graders is based on interest and reading level. Only books that are appropriate and interesting for second grade students are included here. However reading levels are based on averages. That means that there are variations among kids and
therefore it is possible that for some children a book may be more challenging than for others. Interest in the subject matter of the book also affects the difficulty or perceived difficulty of a book by a child. However, most second graders will be able to read the books listed here without finding them too challenging. Books are also listed by topic making the selection of books for your child easier.

All the books were rated 4 or better (out of 5) by the second grade students who read them. That means that these books' likeability factor is 80% or better for kids at this reading and interest level.

The fact that a child likes a book does not necessarily means that parents and teachers will agree with his or her choices. Therefore, it is a good idea to read what other parents and educators are saying about a book. Those comments and ratings should be evaluated according to the reader's own values because it is not unusual for a person to dislike a book based on subjective considerations. On the other hand if you agree with that particular point of view then you will be glad to be forwarned of the kind of [objectionable] material included in that particular book.
