Breeding Considerations

If you are considering breeding your dog; or starting a breeding program ... ask your self a few questions before you jump into this.

Why do you want to breed?

If you are not sure, you love animals, or it is for money ... you should rethink breeding at all. Breeding animals does not make profit. Breeding an animal is for the love of the animal. It is for people who want to send puppy mills back where they came from.

If you know your breeds AKC breed standard, and your goal is to stay as close to this as possible ... you are in a good direction. Though if you are in the market for one male dog and as many bitch's you can get for as cheap as possible, you are in the wrong direction.

If you love animals; before you decide on breeding them, spend a day at your local animal shelter or humane society. Donate some of your time there. Clean out there cages. See the dogs they have there. Ask yourself if there really needs to be more dogs in this world.

If you decide to breed. If you decide this is right for your dogs and you. Don't breed unless you are willing to rescue. Don't just rescue dogs of your own breeding, or your own breed. Though foster homes for dogs and other animals. Find good homes for them.

Don't be a statistic.
