Worth the wait: The Chicago-style deep-dish pizza is legendary, and so is the service.
The Scene: Ornery waitresses sling pie with plenty of attitude, but that doesn't scare away customers. Just about everyone in Sacramento has filed through the doors of this hole-in-the-wall. Dark and cavern-like, the dining room is covered in wood paneling, worn red carpet, a black ceiling that sparkles and strings of Christmas lights that burn year-round.
The Food: It can take almost an hour to get a pie. Pass time with Wings-O-Fire, Zelda's rendition of buffalo wings (they're actually legs) that are plump, meaty and oh-so spicy. Skip withered bowls of iceberg lettuce they call salad and dig into a pizza consisting of cornmeal-sprinkled crust, tart tomato sauce and what may be a pound of cheese. Try the pesto pie, heavy with chunks of garlic.
