Quest Hints

1. Finding a Quest

There are a few ways to get quests. The most common is to say 'quest' or 'mission' to an NPC. However, sometimes, you must say a different command to recieve the task. Quests are also often found in books. Read everything and interrogate everyone is my best advice! Also, don't forget quests given to you by other players. For example, quite often if you hang around town, you will be asked to help with a body recovery, and the rewards for these are often quite nice, such as a little gold, or much better still, useful information or advice.

2. Following the Quest

Try looking everywhere for clues. I cannot stress enough how much information can be found in books. Also, many NPCs have information, but at times, this can be difficult to extract...

3. NPC Interrogation

You should approach NPCs with a few keywords in mind which to give them. Always look for names, places and references to objects in books - these often give good starting points. Otherwise, just resort to the generic statements, like 'job', 'offer', 'secret', 'quest', 'name', 'help', 'treasure', 'door' or 'key'. Once one generic statement has been given, listen carefully to the NPCs response. Look for keywords in that statement which you can in turn feed back to the NPC. If all else fails, you could even use my technique of repeating what the NPC says to you back to them in verbatim. Then, try removing words from that statement and repeating it again. This way you will systematically check every last part of that statement for keywords. Bear in mind that some NPCs might not respond to a simple 'Hello'. To address an NPC formally, you must construct a statement that begins with a greeting (such as 'Hail' or 'Hello'), then the NPC's job title, and finally the NPC's name itself. Going slightly off topic, you often can get an interesting NPC response from repeating their own names to them or mentioning the infamous Ferumbras. And, well, thats about all the NPC advice I can give.

4. Special Items and Treasure

When exploring an area with a quest set in it, always look out for strange items, in particular, keys. Often the route to the reward, or item which an NPC asks for is locked in some way. Bear in mind too that the 'new' quest system allows you to recive your quest items and rewards once only per character, so be sure not to lose them. To pick up a quest item, approach a container and select the Use command on it. The quest item should be automatically added to your inventory. The trick to finding quest item containers is to realise that they do not have a volume marking, so keep an eye out for usuablly openable things such a bodies, coffins, chests and boxes with no volume makred on them. Some quest areas are also blocked by Doors of Expertise. To pass such a door, you must be of a certain predetermined level. Actually, finding these doors usually indicates the existance of a quest nearby. Good luck in your travels!
