Horror movies are, without a doubt, one of the best forms of entertainment. Unfortunately good movies get mixed up with those of the more crappier variety (eg. Slaughter High, Chopping Mall, Curse of the Canibal Confederates). The point of this page is to recomend some very cool movies (well, I think they're cool ) to peoples who hate renting crap. So peoples, turn of the computer, run down to the video store and rent some exciting videos like...
The Evil Dead This is undoubtebly one of the classics... full of the essential gore to keep any horror fan happy. The story line is pretty basic, some college kids decide to go to a cabin for the weekend, and like happy campers they discover the 'book of the dead' and awaken the 'deadites'... let the fun begin. Lotsa blood, lotsa Bruce Campbell and lotsa bad hair cuts. This is a must see.
The Evil Dead II All cool movies just have to have sequels, but it's pretty rare for the sequels to be anywhere near as good as the first movie. Thankfully, this movie doesn't follow these rules... And now for the story line! Ash (Campbell) is back, and being the smart lil chappy he is he goes back to the cabin. The 'deadites' are still around and so are some pesky other people (with bad hair I might add). This movie has been mixed with a bit of comedy, and I think it works pretty well. We still get the gore... and we even see Ash cut off his own possessed arm! Generally a pretty funky movie (too bad it's sequal was crap ).
House on Haunted Hill I love asylum movies... they are just too cool for this world! House on Haunted hill is a very awesome movie... not terribly scary, but I love it. We get pencils through knecks, inmate vivisections, electro shock 'therapy' and lotsa other stuff... this is one awesome movie... ok, so all the movies on this page are, but this is probably my favourite of all time!
The Faculty For some reason I used to be really obsessed with this movie... I watched it so often I knew the lines by heart (I need a life!). Well, this movie really does confirm my lifelong suspicions... teachers really are aliens! This movie is kind of a rip off of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but is teen-style and kinda cool. I really like Elijah in this too... that guy rocks!
Childs Play 1, 2 & 3 and The Bride of Chucky Yet another lot of movies that are really cool (I think I need to use a different word now). Chucky is an evil little doll (ex-crim) who likes to kill people. You'll live your life quoting stupid things from these movies, like "Hi I'm Chucky, I'll be your friend 'till the end". I especially like Child's Play 2... watch em all, you'll either love 'em or hate 'em.
Silence of the Lambs One of the 'mainstream' cool movies that I like, featuring our favourite cannibal... Hannibal! YAY. Some guy decides that clothing made out of people's skin was 'in fashion' so starts slicing and dicing. Good movie... don't bother watching 'Hannibal' though, unless you fast forward through the boring bits... hehehe.
Braindead (AKA Dead Alive) In my opinion this movie is totally in need of some more fans! It is the most goriest and funniest zombie movies I have ever seen. Rent it, you will not be dissapointed... you will also have the chance to brush up on the Kiwi accent immitations, woopie!
Return of the Jedi Like all 'geeks' I love star wars... and Return of the Jedi is by far the best! We get lots of the droids (isn't R2 a babe?!), Chewie and fuzzy lil Ewoks. I think this is a well rounded movie, with action, romance, comedy (C3PO just cracks me up) and adventure. Seriously if you haven't seen this I really am begining to wonder where you have been...
The Shining Both the new and old version of this movie are great. Psycho dad tries to kill family, who are conveniently cut off from the outside world in a snowstorm. One of the must see scenes in the Kubrick version is the dad (I'm not too good at character names) making out with the rotten corpse... EEEEEWWWWW!!! Just for an odd bit of trivia, my mum thinks that guy is 'freaky'.
Bad Taste Yet another cool movie from Peter Jackson (Braindead). Aliens come to earth and want to turn humans into 'livestock' for a new fast food chain. There aren't any actors in this movie which makes it so much cooler. There is one question I have for you people though... why aren't there any females in this movie?! Did I miss something? We get to see people drinking spew (yum) and a guy trying to keep his brains from slipping out of his head (ultra yum). Not as gory as braindead, but still pretty cool. Go Kiwis!!!
The Xfiles Movie It would be impossible to be an Xfiles fan without having atleast seen this movie. Apart from the fact that the Lonegunmen only get limited time on screen it's pretty cool, with explosions (woopie) and David Duchovny. *Sigh* Scully still manages to miss seeing the UFO though, damn it!
If you made it this far... you need a life more than I do (do these people exist?). Well I'm off to sleep now so goodbye and goodnight... happy movie watching!
