Thanks to the big-selling soundtracks for in-planetarium dozing which they recorded for Virgin in the mid-'70s (Ricochet, Stratosfear etc), Tangerine Dream are hardly credited as Krautrock pioneers in the same league as Can or Faust. If you are a fan of such works as Brian Eno's Descreet Music or Music for Films, Zeit will fit nicely between those two in your CD changer.
