Saturday, November 10, 2001

SUNNYSIDE - The area boasts one of the better teams in the combined Pittsburgh South Association-Greater Pittsburgh Soccer League. It's the Stoney's Mon Valley United 30 and Over outfit which plays on Sundays with home games at Sunnyside-Gallatin.

Guided by player-coaches Greg Pastor, Jeff Nartowicz and Joe Krempasky, Stoney's takes a 6-1-1 record into Sunday's 3:30 p.m. home game with Harmarville. Stoney's top scorers are Tim Cressman, former Ringgold standout Rick Boysen and Nartowicz, who starred at Belle Vernon Area. Brian Lowe, a Mt. Lebanon High and Boston College product, has turned in three shutouts as the team's goalkeeper. The defense is led by former Ringgold star Dan Appolonia, Mike Ryan, Rick Glover and Elizabeth Forward coach Dave King and Peter Hess from Germany. Other team members include Ron Fransko, Erik Naylor, Brett Dolfi, Fred Carragher, Ron Lupori, Eric Montgomery, Chris Lasswell, Dave Unico and Eric Kessler.

The last two years Stoney's finished in the top four in the Three Rivers Tournament, the largest amateur event on the East Coast.

Press Announcement

“Hess Bags First Deer of the Year”

September 27, 2001:  Not known for his marksmanship or interest in deer hunting, Peter Hess took off Wednesday evening determined to find him a deer.  While traveling on the quiet country roads of Peter’s township, enjoying the cool autumn weather, his eyes searched from side to side looking for those bambi like creatures.  Not long into the journey, his eyes focused to the left and then to the right, suddenly without notice they were there, he slowed his car to a crawl hoping to catch a glimpse of our four legged creatures, suddenly not one but two, then three, four, five and more, but without any where to go, he was trapped!  Then without warning, a deer attacked from behind and in an instant, Peter had his first deer of the season and a $1,000.00 bill to repair his damaged car.

By capturing the title for the first deer of the season, Peter is the envy of every deer hunter at rose plastic.  Some are crying foul, as Peter’s deer was not captured in the ordinary way.  They also complain that bow season has yet to open and rifle season is two months away.  Never mind the rules, Peter insists that the deer was hit fair and square (actually front left).  You be the judge.

Just as a warning, this is the second deer attack that the Hess family has been involved in.  It might be dangerous to travel with them.
