This is JPEvolution's Jurassic Park 4 News, Updates, and Rumors page. Slash N' Spino has been keeping me busy by sending me the following news, and we'll continue to keep you posted on the latest information in the JP4 World... ------ November 2002 Friday November 15th, 2002: Goldblum on JP4
The Holly Wood Reporter, a top entertainment magazine, just reciently had an interview with JP veterin star, Jeff Goldblum, who, after talking a little about his latest film 'Igby Goes Down,' was able to answer some JP4 related questions.
Q: Sam Neill has already hinted that there is a good chance he'll return in Jurassic Park 4, can you give us the same hint?
A: I will say that, like Sam, I do have a very good chance to be returning in JP4. I hope I do, it was great working with Steven in the last two movies and I would love to do it again. Q: What has been happening in regards to the stage of the film? A: Well, the film is still in the drawing board stage and Steven and Mr. Moehan are busy writing the script prepping it to make sure it is perfect. Q: You have seen a small amount of the script, what was your reaction to it? A: I was literally left speechless. Of the small part I saw I couldn't believe it, I didn't think it was possible to top the other three films, but believe me, it sure as heck looks like it will. It takes a more sci-fi approach with some science thrown in to make it more enjoyable. Q: Can you share any info about the piece of script you saw? A: Unfourtunetly, no. I cannot say too much. Q: What about dinosaurs? A: Of course there'll be dinosaurs. Steven has told me that my old nemesis, the T-rex (he laughs at the injury his character sustained in the first film), wil be back, possibly along with the Dilophosaur, that venom spitting one and get this, maybe even a water dino, a Mososaur, or something like that. Q: Has any other actor from the other JP films signed on to JP4? A: Not as of now, Universal wants Vince Vaughn (Nick Van Owen) to return in this film and Cameron Thor might even be amongst the cast. Thanks for taking time out of your scheduale to do this interview with us. The article concluded by saying Jeff Goldblum wil be meeting with Steven in a few weeks, as to why was uncertain.
Wednesday November 13, 2002: Offical JP4 press release. LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Universal Pictures is going forward on a fourth installment of its "Jurassic Park" franchise and is making a deal with scribe William Monahan to write the script. The story is being kept under wraps, but Steven Spielberg (news) and Kathleen Kennedy are back on board producing. The first installment of the franchise grossed $356.7 million domestically, with the sequel grossing $229.1 million. "Jurassic Park III," released in 2001, grossed $181.2 million domestically. Spielberg directed the first two installments, with Joe Johnston taking the reins on the third. As of yet, no director is on board the fourth film, which is being overseen by production president Mary Parent and production vp Tim O'Hair. Monahan, repped by Broder Webb Chervin Silberman, previously wrote 20th Century Fox's historical drama "Tripoli" for director Ridley Scott (news), with Russell Crowe (news) attached to star. He is also working with Scott on an untitled 11th century Crusades drama.
There you have it, JP4 is going full steam and the press release further proves it. More to come Source: LA Times - November 13, 2002
Tuesday November 12, 2002: Joe says 'No'
A bit more on the JP4 announcment from the ever journalistically sound E! Online this evening, with the author quoting everyone's favorite gossip guy Anderson Jones who says matter-of-factly that Joe Johnston will not be involved in the next JP movie. Of course, no word as to when Jones said this; the author could just be reffering to a column Anderson wrote back in April where he suggested JP4 would consider everything in JP3 "just a dream". E! also makes an educated guess about when we could see JP4 in theaters, saying it's likely Universal is preparing it for Summer 2005. Only about 975 days away!
Thursday, November 7th, 2002.: JP4 is Green Lit
Our friends over at Variety Magazine informed Slash N' Spino earlier this morning that JP4 is definitly green lite:
JP4 now has a writer, and looks very much to be green lit! Little known scribe William Monahan will pen the script, with Spielberg serving as Executive Producer once again. No director has been announced. The Variety blurb is short and sweet, and you can read it at Cinecon.com.
We still have yet to see, but I definitly believe this is true, since many of it all is coming from all the actors' and crews' mouths. But, I wish that they are wrong about this new scriptor... I want David Koepp back... But who knows? Maybe William Monahan really has some great ideas...

Wednesday November 6th, 2002.: 'Neill on JP4 Again', New Updates
Seems we get a little more information about this 'Mark' person... This time from www.spielbergfilms.com: (Exact article) November 5th, 2002 Updates - Sam Neill talks JP4 status update! Thanks to Mark for sharing such a great scoop!
Here's a bit of a reworking of a story I posted (via Dark Horizons) earlier this afternoon. Mark, the tipster over at Dark Horizons was kind enough to write me tonight to share his experience with JURASSIC PARK star Sam Neill, and how he came across the great JP4 news hitting the 'net today. I'm going to let Mark speak in his own words, as exciting as the pulled quotes on Dark Horizons were, I think his full experience goes to show what a gracious, kind person Sam Neill seems to be. Here's Mark:
"I was doing some shopping Monday in my native Queenstown, New Zealand, when I noticed a certain figure exiting the Saffron eatery. It was none other than local celeb Sam Neill!
Now, I've read that he doesn't usually enjoy being made a fuss of, but he didn't look in a big hurry, so I went over and said hello. He's actually quite taller in real life than you'd imagine, but a very cool guy to talk to. I asked him about his recent comments in The New Zealand Listener magazine where he mentions a possible role in Jurassic Park IV. He said "Yeah, Steven Spielberg and his people are quite busy prepping another one. There is a chance you'll see me in it. I'm as surprised as anyone, because I didn't think there was any way they could get Alan Grant involved again. But they came up with a clever idea. Steven just blew me away with the story."
Sam said it "was like putting on a comfy pair of old shoes" when he returned as Grant in JPIII, and would be "quite flattered" if the opportunity arose to revisit the character once more. I begged him to give me a few details on Spielberg's new story, but he wouldn't reveal anything (sorry, I tried!). All he said was "Something frightening is happening concerning those dinosaurs that doesn't necessarily bode well for us humans. Scientists never seem to learn."
I asked if he could at least tell me the flavor and tone of the storyline. After some thinking, Sam said "You know that feeling when you first saw the original film, and you were so in awe, and felt so swept away and mesmerised by the majesty of it all? I believe this premise has the potential to elicit that same kind of response. Out of all the concepts that've been created for these movies, this is possibly my favorite."
I then told him I really hope he turns up in JPIV. He said "Thank you. We'll see."
I got an autograph from Sam, but was really peeved that I had no camera to take a photo. I tried very hard to remember most of what he said regarding JPIV so I could report it. Sam Neill came across as really down-to-earth and genuine, unlike many big stars." Teusday November 5th, 2002.: Neill on JP4, Again!
Oviraptor, a JPAftermath Forum member, found an interesting article at Dark Horizons.com today. Seems as if Sam Neill is whistling a good tune about JP4:
Sam Neill was in Queenstown, New Zealand recently and 'Mark' got to speak him about the fourth 'Jurassic' flick: "Yeah, Steven Spielberg and his people are quite busy prepping another one. There is a chance you'll see me in it. I'm as surprised as anyone, because I didn't think there was any way they could get Alan Grant involved again. But they came up with a clever idea. Steven just blew me away with the story....something frightnening is happening concerning those dinosaurs that doesn't necessarily bode well for us humans. Scientists never seem to learn". What sort of tone can we expect? "You know that feeling when you first saw the original film, and you were so in awe, and felt so swept away and mesmerized by the sheer majesty of it all? I believe this premise has the potential to elicit that same kind of response. Out of all the concepts that've been created for these movies, this is possibly my favorite". So, that's the article... Sam Neill seems pretty happy about JP4, so maybe this means he'll fully reprise his role (by being a main character once again) in JP4.

October 2002 Saturday October 19th, 2002.: Williams to Do Score For JP4?
(From John William's Mouth):"Well, I'm certainly busy as ever, which I enjoy. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is definitely in my future. Star Wars Episode 3 will follow that, which I'm very much looking forward to doing. It's like the completion of an epic journey. Then I'm back with Steven Spielberg for the fourth Indiana Jones, an exciting project that seems to have attracted incredible interest. Steven has also expressed his desire for me to score the next Jurassic Park film, which he is developing presently. It's a genre I would just adore to revisit, so I'll do my best to be available for it."

Friday, October 18th, 2002.: Variety Talks JP4
Q: "Is the rumor true about another Jurassic Park installment?"
A: "Yes it is in the early stages and the script is awesome and rivals the first film."
Q: "What is the latest scoop on the film?"
A: "I think I can tell you a little. As you all may or may not know, Universal wanted a Mososaur, a giant reptilian sea creature from the Jurassic, to appear in the films opening scene involving Enriques Cardosa's boat being attacked, killing the men on board and distroying the ship, but due to the duration of the film, Universal was froced to cut the CGI Mososaur from the shot and just put a thick blanket of fog instead. Well, some of the Universal team that is currently working on Jurassic Park 4 are despritly trying to convince Spielberg to put the Mososaur in the film."
Q: "What did you have in mind for the Mososaur?"
A: "Okay, I'll spill the beans a little more (laughs). Universal wants the Mososaur to attack a boat, or even a low flying plane. To have a plane containing six passengers, fly low over the location when suddenly the Mososaur bursts from the water and grabs the plans ski in its jaws and send it crashing down. Then we go to an under-water shot of the passengers kicking a window lose and swimming out, one passenger being not so lucky clasped in the animals jaws and dragged under. Happy now? (again he laughs)"
Q: "Is this scene offical as of now?"
A: "Not as of now, but Steven seems to really like the idea and may put it in the film, but we're not sure as of now."
Thanks for your time Jeff, can't wait to see the film.
Jeff: "You're welcome."

Thursday, October 10th, 2002: Sam Neill On JP4 An article at Dan's JP3 Page talks about Sam Neill's recent interview with "The New Zealand Listener" and made some comments concerning JP4:
Q: The role you're most internationally recognised for is probably Alan Grant from Jurassic Park. Any truth to the reports there will be yet another sequel? Are you involved?
SN: Oh, well I could...Actually, I'm...(laughs). I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say in regard to this. Yes, another Jurassic Park is in the developmental stages at the moment. I think I can say that without being arrested, or eaten by one of those scary dinosaurs (laughs). As for my involvement, it's a possibility. I certainly had a ripper of a time doing the previous two, so I have no objection in that respect. Steven (Spielberg) has spoken with me briefly about the new story they are working on, which is remarkably inventive and intriguing, by the way.
Q: Any plot teasers you would care to share with New Zealand first?
SN: (laughs heartily) You really DO want to get me arrested, don't you? No, I'm very sorry, no juicy secrets from me. Steven has indicated I may have some part in the film, but I'll leave it at that. From what I know, it's pretty early goings. As always, I'll wait for the finished script, and just see how my schedule shapes up.

------ Thursday, October 3rd, 2002: JP4 NAME RELEASED! As you all probably know, a recent rumor has been circulating that JP4 standees and posters are being produced and released. Well I am here to offically announce that the rumor is true, JP4 standees and posters are being released, no hoax, lagitiment JP4 teasers. Big Razzie was the first to inform me of this, but I was skeptical so I checked things out with my 'Universal Leak', and after about five days of snooping around, the rumor has been clarified as true. The standee features the original skeltetal Tyrannosaurus rex, but in a different pose then in the JP or TLW logos, but the logo does have the same cracks and creases as the TLW logo. It features the same jungle and Pteradactyls as the JP3 logo and features lightening and foliage in the foreground. If that isn't enough, the actual name (as to whether the name is a tester name or the actual one has yet to be determined) for JP4 has been released: Return to Chaos is the name we may see when JP4 is released. Does the recent releasing of posters (which are just a teaser logo) and standees mean we are closer to seeing Jurassic Park: Return to Chaos then we think?
If you are looking for a photo of the standee it will be released and featured on the web in mid-October and Slash N' Spino guarentees he will let us know of further developments in this exciting second JP4 news item of the week.

----- Wednesday, October 2, 2002 - NIVOLA AND NEILL OBLIGATED TO RETURN IN NEXT JP INSTALLMENT. Recently, a special issue of Cinescape Entertainment Magazine entitled: 'Squeal Mania' spilled the beans on a new JP4 related news item. Jurassic Park III star, Alessandro Nivola, who portrayed Dr. Billy Brennan is actually obligated to return in the latest Jurassic Park installment. Nivola's agent told Cinescape that: "During the duration of the filming of JP3, Nivola, Sam Neill (Alan Grant) and Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler) all signed a contract that stated if Universal needed them for JP4 they would comply." The article also mentioned that Nivola signed a contract with Amblin and Universal for two Jurassic Park films. JP veterin, Sam Neill signed a simillar contract while filming the first Jurassic Park film n 1992, but, as mentioned in an interview with the Movie Database, his contract was for three JP films. Does this support the rumor that Alan Grant will return in JP4? The article did mention Spielberg has an idea for Dr. Grant in JP4, but as to what this would entail, the details are sketchy and uncertain as of right now. The article concluded saying that Nivola said 'It was an honour to work with the cast and crew of Jurassic Park III. I liked it so much I didn't even think twice about signing the contracts.' So, does this mean we will see Neill and Nivola reprising their characters in the now offically announced Jurassic Park IV? Only time will tell. ------ September 2002 Monday Sept. 22, 2002 - Top Entertainment Mags Discuss JP4. The latest issues of Cinescape and Dreamworks Entertainment are raving about the latest installment in Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park series. Cinescape stated that Steven has promised a mamoth storyline, but he is not saying too much. "All I can say is this is the best story for a dinosaur movie yet, other then that, my lips are seeled." Dreamworks Entertainment featured an even better article. Spielberg says 'The Jurassic Park series is a very hard one to kill off.' (does this mean JP5 and possibly 6 will follow? Only time will tell). Also, reliable, but unoffical sorces state that Jeff Goldblum, Vince Vaughn, Sam Neill (Who surprisingly told Dreamworks Entertainment he'd love to return for JP4.), Richard Attenborough and possibly Cameron Thor will be present among the JP4 cast and that Joe Johnston will direct. These articles taken right from top entertainment mags obviously prove once again we will soon see the next installment in the Jurassic Park series.
