DEATH TO DIABETES
by DeWayne McCulley

Dear Editor,

Would your magazine be interested in the story of how an African-American engineer overcame a diabetic coma, four shots of insulin a day, and a 1337 blood sugar level?

My Story:
In 2002, I overcame a diabetic coma, 4 insulin shots a day, and a 1337 blood sugar level as explained in the newspaper article (below). I was fortunate in that I was able to use my engineering background to develop a nutrition/test-based program that directly addresses the root causes of Type 2 diabetes, especially the insulin resistance. After almost 4 years, I am still free of the insulin, Coumadin, and other drugs. During that time I was asked to facilitate two diabetic support groups, one for the American Diabetes Association for almost two years. The members of both support groups along with several churches, my mother and my daughter encouraged me to write a book about my experience, which was just released in October 2005: Death to Diabetes -- The 6 Stages of Type 2 Diabetes Control & Reversal.

My book's wellness strategy aligns with those nutrition-based therapies by focusing on proper nutrition, exercise, blood glucose testing, education, spiritual health, and periodic doctor visits. One of my objectives is to share my success story (via the book) with as many people as possible - especially African-Americans, who are being devastated by Type 2 diabetes. The wellness program described in the book is not a "one-size-fits-all" program because every body is different. The program is customizable, based on post meal blood glucose testing and many other parameters, e.g. blood pressure, other medical parameters, lifestyle, etc.

Note: My primary care physician has been supportive with my endeavors and shares my story with his diabetic patients as inspiration (as explained in the newspaper article) . Several other local doctors have been supportive by buying several books for their diabetic patients, but I need to expand my customer base to include doctors and other professionals beyond my immediate community.

My Request:
Please feature my story in your news magazine.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
DeWayne McCulley
