[1] The Technology in the Educational System:
This
conference was held on 23-24th of May 2000 at Ain Shams Univ. Guest
house. 150 memers from universities, research centers and the Ministry of
Education were involved, some of the participants presented papers covering the
different aspects of the conference on the first day:. These papers were:
1-
Technology in the educational system.
2-
The science education center view on using the technology in the educational
system.
3-
Types of educational technologies in teaching.
4-
The role of the artificial intelligence in education.
5-
Using information and communication technologies to develop the higher
education.
6-
The experience of the Center in lecturing using the modern technology.
7-
Experiences in changing printed texts into electronic texts.
8-
Using modern technology in presenting the results of an applied research.
On
the second day, some of the experiences of Ain - Shams University in using
educational technology were presented. The following faculty members presented
the following papers.
1-
Prof. M. F. Tolba.
2-
Prof. S. Farag.
3-
Prof. R. M. Ramadan.
4-
Prof. A. Z. Badr.
5-
Prof. B. M. Awad.
The conference came up with
the following recommendations.
The
university should encourage planning and carrying out conferences and workshops
that disseminate using education technology in teaching at the different
disciplines.
Giving
the appropriate support to the center to be a base for educational technology.
Providing
the university library with the different technologies that help in carrying out
its duties.
The
center should make links with international organizations interested in
educational technologies.
Increasing
the cooperation between the center and the ministry of education.
Developing
an educational technology unit at the center in cooperation with the UNESCO. The
unit should be used in training Faculty Members at the University in using
educational technologies.
[2] The First Arab Conference on Biotechnology Education.
It was held on 13-17th Sept. 2000
at Ain-Shams Univ. Guest House. It was organized with the cooperation of the
UNESCO regional bureau for the Arab States in Cairo and the National Center for
Educational Research and Development, Cairo. 140 participants from the
universities, research centers, Ministry of Education beside some members from
the Arab World were involved. Several papers were presented and discussed in the
conference. These included.
1-
Biotechnology education in Egypt.
2-
Fermentation Technology.
3-
Biotechnology in Agriculture.
4-
Biotechnology in Agriculture.
5-
Gene Manipulation and its role in developing Biotechnology.
6-
Synthesis of some quinine compounds.
7-
Biotechnology and producing salt resistant plants.
8-
Biotechnology in the curricula of basic education.
9-
A proposal for introducing biotechnology in the curricula of the general
education.
10-
Introducing some biotechnology concepts in the curricula of the high school.
11-
Biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.
12-
Biotechnology Ethics.
13-
A strategy for using biotechnology to serve human development.
The conference came out with
several recommendations.
The most important of these were:
Introducing
biotechnology concepts in the curricula of the general and university education.
Preparing
and trying some units on biotechnology for the general and Univ. education
curricula of the faculties of education.
Increasing
the awareness of the public about the developments in biotechnology and its
ethics through the media.
Initiating
a site on the internet dealing with the latest developments in biotechnology and
issues dealing with the ethic of biotechnology.

The First Arab conference on the systemic approach in teaching and learning.
This was held on 17-18 Feb., 2001 at
Ain-Shams Univ. Guest house. It was organized in cooperation with the UNESCO
regional bureau for Arab States in Cairo. 200 members attended the conference.
The participants included members from Egyptian and Arab Universities beside
many interested specialists from research centers and institutions. Some of the
talks presented at the conference are:
1-
Systemic Approach in Teaching and Learning.
2-
The Educational system.
3-
The School as a system.
4-
The systemic approach and teacher preparation.
5-
The systemic approach in teaching and learning public health.
6-
The systemic approach in teaching and learning aromatic chemistry.
7-
The systemic approach in teaching and learning aliphatic chemistry.
8-
The systemic approach in teaching and learning the periodic table.
9-
The systemic approach in teaching and learning mathematics.
10-
The systemic approach in teaching and learning physics.
11-
The systemic approach in teaching and learning Biology.
Beside these talks, models were present with
using the systemic approach in teaching:
- Practical work at the laboratory.
*Green
chemistry.
*Organic
chemistry.
- Physics.
- Biology.
- Public Health.
The conference come out with
several recommendations.
The most important of these are:
Intensifying
the efforts in the Center towards preparing model units in different science
disciplines using the systemic approach for general & higher education.
Increasing
the activities of the Center towards generalization in different education
topics.
Dissemination
and publicizing the systemic approach in teaching and learning among the Arab
Universities.
Organizing
workshop and training courses for the teachers and university staff members.
It
is recommended that the educational preparation of the Univ. lectures should
include discussions about systemic approach.
Preparation
of test materials taking into consideration the systemic approach.
Faculties
of education are advised to adopt the systemic approach in their teacher
preparation programs.
Preparing
a model curriculum using the systemic approach in public health education in the
faculties of medicine.
