Address Security
Issues
This page is to help you become aware of the
security issues at hand with the address page that is a part of the RVA Class of
2001 page. I am hoping that through these helpful reminders or
explanations that you will increase your own safety and the safety of others
listed on the address pages.
 | First things First - the password.
Please don't share this information with anyone who is not in our class or
closely related to our class. Don't tell someone (even somone in our class)
the password unless you are on a secure connection like a personal IM or an
email or something like that. Please don't post it in a chatroom or on
a message board or somewhere like that. |
 | Please don't create a link (using the
Favorites option) directly to the address information page. This will
risk someone else following that link. |
 | If you are on a public/shared computer I
ask that you take added safety measures. (That is if your computer that you
use is not your own but is in a computer lab or a library or internet cafe
or someone else's personal computer.)
| | First - don't add links to the RVA 2001
page on those computers.
| | Second - make sure that you completely
close your internet browser ( Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator)
before leaving the computer. |
 | It would also be a good idea if you cleared
your browser history - especially if you are on a computer lab
computer.
| | To clear the browser history (this function
lets you go to places you have already been quickly) in Internet Explorer,
click on TOOLS at the top, then choose INTERNET OPTIONS. a window will
display and at the bottom it will have a part for History. Click on
the CLEAR HISTORY button.
| | To clear the browser history in Netscape
Navigator, click on Edit at the top, then choose PREFERENCES. A window
will open with an option at the bottom for History. Click the CLEAR
HISTORY button. |
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
I ask that you consider these options to increase the security of our
addresses, both yours and your friends'. There are a lot of strange people
out there who could get ahold of these addresses so this is an extra precaution
against those kind of people. Thank you for thinking safety. Please
remember to do this after you use your computer everytime.
