Welcome to the official web site of The Risk Involved
9/2/02- Ok, heres the news. Dana has returned home and the band is no more. But dont give up all hope, Some of this band will survive. Drummer Brett Lucas and Dana are teaming back up with a guitarist from another local band that has broken up. The band Set Theory broke up do to the mishap of people moving away for college and we have taken in Matt Y. I'm not even going to attempt to spell his last name. This website will stay up with much construction going on as I slowly take TRI down, an put the new band up. We are searching for a bassist who can play very well and has own transportation and equipment. Yes we do ask much.. but if you want to play and think you hae what it takes.. Email Dana at Strayrisk@hotmail.com . Thats all for now. Have a good day. |
6/9/02- Well, we played our last show for a long time. We hadn't practiced or even got together in a month or so, and we remebered everything. Thanks to everyone who came out to Nick's party for that little show. In other news, the band is no more until the return of vocalist Dana Cowen. The Risk Involved wont be doing any shows this summer or any practices for that matter. Dana is scheaduled to leave for Ft. Leonardwood Missouri on Tuesday, June 11th. He will be gone for only about 8 weeks or so, but hopes to reunite The Risk Involoved upon his return. Promises have been made by some of the other members to return, for others we might have to do some searching around for replacements. However time changes minds, and we have alot of time until the possible reunion. Dana wishes every one to have a great summer and not to forget the fun we had. No CD, no demo, no loyal fans... just another local band. The Risk Involved... bye bye. |
5/18/02- We didnt play last night. Things got all messed up and people were just getting mad at each other. But we did get in contact with an individual who agreed to record our cd. We plan on getting that started in a week or so. I'll keep ya up to date on that. |
5/17/02- Well, we might play a show tonight. The decision rests on our bassist Micah. If he decides to go see Star Wars instead, then we probably wont play. Either that or we'll play with just guitar, drums, and vocals. This brings me to a topic of... well a thought I guess. Is this lack of dedication going to tear this band apart? Personally... Star Wars could wait. I'll give you people the details I know of: It starts at 7:30 tonight at Trinity- 1150 49th Street North, St. Petersburg. I think its a Bennefit show for the homeless or something. It costs $6 and as for other bands playing, I'm not sure of the line up.. but the refuge site says that State Road 13, After All, and Last Minute Project will be playing. One of these bands has dropped out I assume, thats why we .. er, might be playing. So basically.. go if ya want to. We might be there. I'm not gonna bother posting it in the shows section until after it has happened. |
5/10/02- Well, It's "iffy", but we are working on getting a cd out right now. Hopefully all will work out and we will get it out by the first week of June or so. We are trying to get hooked up with someone who offered to record our music and right now, its still... like I said before... "iffy". As for what will be on the album and all that other info, check out the music section. I have modified it a bit to show you what it might be called and what the album cover might look like! Well, wish us luck. We are gonna work our asses off on this. Also, rumors of an "End of the school year party" with performances by TRI and others. We'll keep ya posted. |
4/23/02- Not much going on right now for the band. We are working on a new song or two. When those are complete we will look for cheap recording places. If any of you out there know a place or person where we could get a demo or album done for a good price, please let us know. We really want to get something out for you before the summer. We hope to have something done by the end of May or within the first week of June. As for web site updates, I added some updated pictures taken by a great photographer named Heidi. You can check those out in the pictures section. Enjoy! |
4/19/02- Thank you so much to every one who came out to last nights show. I wanna thank all the bands for putting up with the time limit and all the little difficulties we had. But all was well and we had a great show with a great crowd. Thank you to every one who came out and supported the bands and the cause. The grand total I think we raised was about $870. Thanks to every one for helping out with stage hands and sound and lights, especially the drama kids... great job guys, thanks alot. I also wanna thank Mrs. Boylan for all the time she donated to the show. Thanks again to all the bands, Split Decision, Further From Tomorrow, Set Theory, Chubby Tuff and thanks to the rest of my band for a great night. Again thanks one and all for helping out and supporting the locals. In other news: After the show, i shattered my back window in my station wagon while loading y equipment. Thanks a mil to the kids who helped me clean up and fix it up. I got home at about 12:30 and duct taped a giant cardboard advertisement of Charmen Paper Towels up to replace the window. Hopefully the cops dont pull me over for that. the band is looking for more shows to do during the month of May, we'll play any open slots, headline, middle slots or even house parties you can throw at us. Email Dana at: Strayrisk@hotmail.com if you can help us out. |
4/11/02- Another band has been added to the line up for the April 18th show. The new local ska band Chubby Tuff will start things off, followed by Further From Tomorrow, then TRI, Set Theory, and lastly Split Decision. I hope to see alot of people at this show to support the locals and the cause. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. Again the date is April 18th, thats a thursday night and doors open at 5:30. Admission will be $5 at the door if you havnt bought a ticket for $4 yet through the school. As for news about TRI, we've been practicing hard at Brett's house and getting ready to impress everyone at the show. Hope to see everyone and more. |
3/26/02- The Band will be practicing at Brett's house from now on until the summer. The next show in line is the one on April 18th at the CHS Auditorium. Check out the shows section for more on that. We also should be playing at the Orpheum before the end of April. We'll keep ya posted on that. The state show looks iffy, but we are still working on it. As for news on what the band plans on doing during Dana's Absence: The best way we can think of making sure everything is still smooth by the time Dana gets back is to just take a long break while he's gone. This way the band can get back together and improve what we already know we can do. It was a good solid run from the start.. now we are going to take a deep breath, and hope for the best! But dont expect the band to die off yet... We are still going strong as of now. |
3/13/02- The Site has had a few updates. I redesigned the shows table, redesigned the links page, put the April 18th flyer up, and made a whole new page. You should of seen it after you clicked the animation on the first page. It takes you to the new start page. That way, if you really want to read this news, you have to click it! I also changed the layout of the news section a bit. The band is still having some trouble finding a place to practice. We found one place, but we dont have $170 a month for a place with NO A/C!!! We'll let ya know when everything is cool again. |
3/5/02- We are still looking for a new place to practice. The April 21st show at Gasoline Alley will go on, but without The Risk Involved! Because of booking problems, we have been dropped from that line up. Possible shows in the near future consist of venues such as Central Skate Park, Street Surfer in Dunedin,The CORE, and State Theatre. |
2/28/02- The band has hit a little speed bump.... the cops showed up at Kurts house and arrested him and took him away to jail. Actually thats just a joke... but the cops did come to Kurts house while we were practicing, and they have shut down our practice sessions at the location. So now we have been kicked out of two garages. To solve this problem.. we simply need a new place to practice. So the band is looking to pay monthly fees for a storage unit in a public storage facility. We'll let ya know how that turns out. If anyone knows a sweet place for practice sessions in the Clearwater/ Safety Harbor area.. hook us up! |
2/23/02- Right now the band is putting on the final touches to the longer lasting set list. Shows are being booked and the newest I can release is another show in April. We play with 3 other local bands at Country Side High School's Auditorium after school at about 5pm on the 18th. The show is brougt to you by The Marine Biology Club who are raising money for The Fight Against Cancer. All profits are donations. There will also be movie clips between bands and possibly guest speakers. Student at the school will beable to purchase tickets in school for $4. For everyone else it's $5 at the door. We are also in the midst of booking shows at the CORE in St.Pete, we'll let ya know when those dates are set.. they will however be before April. |
2/20/02- AHHHH.. it's the end of the world at... 8:02 PM tonight... why?!?! I dont know.. something to do with millitary time and todays date and how it cant ever happen again. Any way, I'm getting flyers printed far in advance for the April 21st show. I posted it on the flyers page in the shows section. Make sure you leave this date open. We told you in advance... so NO EXCUSES! |
2/19/02- We have booked a show with Agent Felix, As You Wish, and Eye Lit for April 21st at Gasoline Alley Cafe. Check out the shows section for more info. We are also almost complete with our entire set list. The Lyrics for the two new songs "My Dark" and "In Your Absence" have been added to the music section. Keep checking back for more info. |
2/12/02- Another song has been added to the set list. "My Dark" will be an intro/walk on song. It's probably one of the most hardcore songs we will ever put together! Its a good song to start things off with. I found some one to make us 1 inch pins, so we will try to have those for sale at our next show. Also, Split Decision will be playing at State Theatre, Sunday the 17th @7pm. These guys are really good and they have a new singer. So go check them out with More or Less, Blue Flame Combo, and Ballistic. It's only $5! |
2/8/02- We are getting ready to start booking shows again. We have one show set up sometime in May, but we will have shows before that one. If anyone who reads this is looking for bands to book, email us because we only have a 3 month time limit to have shows. The band will be short a member for about 2-3 months after June. It's not sure what the rest of the members will do during this time period, but when the band gets back together after the June-August time period, we will definately get right back into the action. This short term break up will be due to the fact that Dana has to attend the second part of his Army training in Missouri. So lets have a good time and rock out as much as possible before soldier boy leaves! |
2/5/02- Practices have been going well and we've been moved to a new location other than Dana's garage. Now we will be in Kurt's garage. The band is currently saving money up for studio time. Our current set list includes 6 songs that we have down to perfection. A new song alled "In Your Absence" will be added to the lyrics page. This is one of at least 3 new songs we will add to the list. When we have all of the new songs ready, we look forward to possibly playing at The Orpheum in Ybor and other local venues. |
1/28/02- The band got together and decided that we could record a song for mp3 purposes and such. We gathered in my living room and jimmy riggged a few mics and plugged the PA into my pc. After about an hour or so of recording we were able to get the song Your Creation finneshed. All thats left to do is mix all the tracks and clean it up a bit and we'll throw it up on the site for your listening pleasure. This will be a test to see how well the sound quality is. If it works out well, we will probably just record all of our songs using this method... but I have an idea that we will have to visit a studio... After sitting at that damn pc for hours on end trying to figure out how stuff works... I can see why studios charge so much. |
1/19/02- New songs have been created. We are still working on perfecting them. I have updated everyones bio picture in the band section, changed the intro animation and changed the logo at the top of every page. We are going to try to record next weekend with the help of ex bassits DJ Schooly. We'll let ya know how that comes out. |
1/14/02- The show at Gasoline Alley went ok. The band had a hard time keeping together because we couldnt hear each other at all. Apparently Gasoline alley has a nice monitoring system so you can fix that sort of problem, however they decided that it would be better if just the vocals ran through the monitors. The bastards!!! Any way, we played a short set and two members of the Smuts got up and humiliated themselves and then we all went home. Gasoline Alley says they'd like to have us back later on in March if we can throw a longer set together... and we will. They also gave us a sort of "invitation" to be in The Battle Of The Bands. We'll probably throw a really impressive song into the line up to try and impress some people during that. Thanks to everyone who came out and listened to us. We now plan on taking a short break and writing more songs to add to our set and make our first Album. More news on that at a later date. |
1/13/02- Show tonight at Gasoline Alley Cafe in Clearwater. I hope everyone enjoys the smooth relaxing melodies of TRI!!! Any way, I hope to see a bunch of familiar faces among the non-familiar ones. This will be our last show for about a month or two because we want to have some time to work on new songs and record an album. So after this show we'll try to get some merchandise as well. Again I hope to see everyone at the show tonight. |
1/6/02- A belated happy new year to everyone who bothers to read this information!!! The band is getting ready for the next show at Gasoline Alley on the 13th. It's a sunday night and we hope to see some familliar faces and some new ones. Our new bassist Micah will be ready and up to date with all our songs and possibly a new one or two to add to the line up. We also plan on recording either a full length album independently or recording a demo cd to get out to listners and possibly a few labels. So if you want to get yourself a copy just email the band with a request and how we can get a copy to you. If its a demo it will go for free. If its a full length album I'll charge oh say $3 to $4. Plus shipping if I have to mail anything out. Once again we look forward to playing our next show at Gasoline Alley. For more information visit the show section. |
12/21/01- Well, we went through a rough few days wondering if the show was gonna happen.. and it did! After countless hours of getting lost in down town St. Pete, we finally arrived at the refuge. But that visit was short lived because the cops showed up and were complete assholes about it so we move the show to the CORE on 16th street. After another 30 minutes of wandering the back roads of St. Pete we finally found the place. Race To Win started things off and we played second followed by The Know How and others. I would like to thank everyone for coming out to our first show and we look forward to many others. In other news, our bassist DJ has joined up with the smuts and decided to bail on us. So we picked up a new bassist named Micah who played 3 of the 5 songs of our set list tonight. He will be the new bassist for TRI and we really appreciate him playing with us in a short notice. |
12/14/01- I made another flyer for the Dec. 21st show, but I didnt want to take the old flyer down... so I decided to make a flyer page where you can view all the flyers from past and future shows. You can check out this page by going to the shows section and clicking on the Flyers Link. If there are any flyers out there with the risk involved on them, send them to the bands email in the contact page and I'lll post it. |
12/13/01- Not much news to report. Theres been questions about the show and whos playing and the price, but if anything changes, you'll beable to find it here. Soon we will have a video section up because we found a way to connect a digital video camera to my computer. We'll put up little videos of shows, practices, and some stupid funny stuff. Keep checking back to see whats up with the band and other info, and dont forget to sign the guest book! |
12/7/01- Things have changed for the Dec. 21st show at the New Refuge. Next Season has dropped out of the line up because not all of them will be in town, and they have been replaced with A Jealousy Issue. There is talk of possibly another band joining the line up as well but it hasnt been confirmed yet. There also might be a change in price if another band plays. The show will start early as well. Try to be there at 6:30 because The Risk Involved is probably playing first and we'd really like to have some people whitness our first show! As for the price again, I suggest you at least have $10 in your pocket becase that might be the new price, and it goes to a worthy cause. So your seeing some good bands and feeling good about it because your helping out. Sounds like a deal to me. |
12/4/01- I found the flyer for the show on the 21st and put it up in the shows section for anyone whos intereasted. We're going to be making shirts soon but we havn't decided on a price yet. We'll try to get them made for the show so we have something to sell. Maybe I'll throw one out to the crowd... any way, come out and support the bands and the cause. It's a Tibetan Freedom Concert and the $8 you spend goes to the Students For A Free Tibetan Organization, and if you dont wanna buy anything and have a few bucks or anything to spare donations are welcomed. |
12/2/01- I got a letter today: This office received a complaint about possible code violation is being maintained on your property. LOUD MUSIC FROM TEENAGE BAND PRACTICE IN GARAGE WITH DOORS AND WINDOWS OPEN. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS CALLED INTO CITY HALL OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS ABOUT THE NOISE FROM THE BAND PRACTICE. PLEASE HAVE THE CHILDREN KEEP THE DOORS AND WINDOWS CLOSED DURING PRACTICE SESSIONS. SO THAT THIS MATTER DOES NOT BECOME A LEGAL ISSUE AND APPEARANCE BEFORE THE CODE ENFORCEMENT BOARD BECOMES NECESSARY. -Douglas W. Drummond Code Enforcement Officer Of Oldsmar Ya know its funny because none of my neighbors have actually come over and told us to turn down the music. So children, we'll just close the door and window and turn the music up. |
12/1/01- We had a little practice/show at Apple studios in room D (the room with the couch that smells like piss but its the most comfortable couch on earth) and I'd just like to thank the few listeners who came out to give us their honest oppinion.. and if they were honest.. they like us! We only had two mishaps, Dana's voice was shot from the day before practice because we went through our set list a billion times, and DJ's bass broke. All in all i think we pulled off a nice little shin-dig. Again thanks to the few of you who came out to listen. Alll the people who didnt come, well, you have an excuse... we didnt tell you about it! But I want everyone to come out and support us and all the other bands (who wont be getting paid) on Dec. 21st at the Refuge in St.Pete because It's a bennefit show and its for a good cause... plus its our first show. So GO! Also, I've updated the pictures section, our friend Tom Z. from the smuts took a few pictures, theres also a picture of him I think every one will like in there. And if any one has any logo ideas or even just some sort of art work related to the band, you can click on a link and send it to us and we'll post it on the site. |
11/28/01- We had a very progressive practice today and we had our good friend Jessica over to take some pictures. I've put them up in the picture section for any one who's intereasted. We're all psyched to play the New Refuge with The Know How and Next Season and others. It will be our first show and we think your gonna like it! |
11/27/01- Dana is back from massachusetts so practices will go on. The state show has changed, why, i'm not sure, but now it's at the new refuge. We also have another show with the smuts at gasoline alley in January. We cant wait to play the new refuge. I've heard it's pretty big and much better than the old places. So come out and check us out. Boys, bring your girlfriends... Girls.. leave your boyfriends at home. |
11/15/01- TRI, Says goodbye... Because of the bands decision to move quickly and improve quality, we've decided to replace our Drummer. The Risk Involved says goodbye to ex drummer Josh and hello to new drummer Brett. There was no reason for kicking out Josh because of his talent or personality. The Decision was made because we needed a different style drummer. Brett's Bio and pictures are up and everything is going great with our new drummer. The first day he practiced with us he picked up one of our songs and we even made up a new one in less than an hour! |
11/14/01- Well, looks like TRI has their first show just about lined up, and its a surprising one too. Looks like our first show will take us straight to the top. We're going to practice our asses off because we've been offered a spot at The State Theartre on Dec. 21st. We've decided to take the offer and we'll be playing with a touring band from Gainsville. When we get a time and price and other info, we'll post it up in the shows section. So keep checking back so you dont miss our first show. |
11/12/01- Site Update! I started an all new Guest Book because the other one was to damn long! Hope we get as many signatures in this one. I also restarted all the link counts and added a few more. Dana's bio is up and as soon as I get the other guys info, there bio's will be up. |
11/10/01- Ok, I Got a few more pages up. The shows section is up, the music section is up, and the pictures section is up with a few simple pics. Sorry guys.. its the only pics i have! |
11/9/01- Just thought I'd add this little section in... Yeah i know alot of the buttons are down. Right now the only ones I have done are the News, Links, Guestbook, and contact pages. I also started The Band section, but the bios and pictures wont be up for a few days or so. "TRI" and give me some time and I'll get the rest up. |
11/8/01- Well, things are getting off to a good start. The band seems to beable to move along quickly and we have all new songs. We're hoping to start doing shows by mid december and possibly a new years show. So if any one is gonna have a party for new years and wants a band to play.. Email Dana at: StraySoldier@www.com . For any other comments or question, feel free to email me there also. |
10/30/01- The Risk Involved has a new web site, but thats not all... We also have new members! Newcomer Kurt will play lead guitar and another new addition is a bass player who can actually play! New member DJ has been added to the band and seems to be a very promising bass player! The site is under alot of construsction, so keep checking back for updates. |
