Frequently Asked Questions
About Gays, Lesbians, and Bisexuals at the University of Regina.
What is G-BLUR?
G-BLUR is a University of Regina Students’ Union (URSU)
students’ group. We exist to provide a discreet, safe, social environment
for students to talk with their peers. G-BLUR is not only open to
students – we welcome faculty members and alumni to attend.
How long has G-BLUR been around?
G-BLUR was created in 1996 by board members of Pink Triangle
Community Services (PTCS). PTCS is a community health and services
organization created to serve the needs of Regina’s gay, lesbian, and
bisexual community. PTCS also created a youth group (Called Inside/Out,
for people ages 14 - 24), and informational/peer support phone line (525-6046),
and a store (Homo Depot) to sell gay-, lesbian-, and bisexual-themed jewelry,
T-shirts, and cards.
What happens at a G-BLUR meeting?
It depends. We have general meetings where we just
discuss what we want to do next. We have discussion nights where
we talk about an issue or event affecting gays, lesbians, and bisexuals.
We have movie nights where we show movies with gay, lesbian, or bisexual
themes. We also hold game nights where we play cards and board games.
There are also other social events like trips and potluck suppers.
How do I contact G-BLUR?
Well, you can call the information/peer support line (525-6046),
email (gbl_ur@hotmail.com), or just show up at a meeting (watch
bulletin boards at the U of R for posters or read the Declass in the Carillon
for meeting times).
Why should I go to a meeting?
Do it for yourself.
Coming out can sometimes be a difficult experience, but
denial is self-destructive. If you are unsure of your sexual orientation,
why not come down and talk with us. Get your questions answered.
Do it for others.
Show your support for your gay, lesbian, and bisexual peers.
Help someone come out. Show your pride and meet new friends.
The more people who show up , the more fun the events, and the more events
we can hold. Get involved and make your voice heard.
See you there!
