Personal Welcome Statement
Hello and Welcome! My name is A.E.H. Veenman. I'm the founder and sole service provider of The Hope Place Stichting. My desire to start this organization stemmed from my own experience as an American living in Holland. My goal was to help other women, who either by choice or necessity, also live or are deciding to reside in The Netherlands. As you navigate through this site, you'll come to learn my purpose and focus for this organization. It is my hope that your visit will provide you or someone you know with answers regarding life in this wonderful country. If you should have any further questions not answered on this site, please feel free to email me robnene@authorsden.com ABOUT A.E.H. Veenman:: A.E.H.
Veenman, the eldest of seven children, was born on October 3, 1972 in Newark,
New Jersey. During
the summer of 1986, after much domestic turmoil, her mother retreated to a
battered women's shelter with her children. As
painful as life had become, A.E.H. knew she wanted to help others who were in
the same situation as she and her family. She
attended Arts High School where she majored in Music -- composing original
music, studying theory, and performing in the school’s chorus. At
16, she was awarded position of Historian in Chapter #1811 of the Tri-M Music
Honors Society and served for two years until graduation. Her
love and passion for music motivated her to continue writing original lyrics and
popular music compositions after high school. It
was at Jersey City State College (now, New Jersey City University) where she
began her studies in the Media Arts -- editing audio and visual tapes, analyzing
film scripts, studying great poets and writers of various genres that would
later enrich her writing. Later,
she changed her major to Sociology and Criminal Justice for a career in Family
Law. Her field concentration was on Women’s Studies, including a broad
spectrum of courses and studies on domestic violence, juvenile delinquency,
women’s equality. Her
poems and novels are based mainly on women’s lives, sexuality, and how these
are viewed by society, particularly in an American urban environment. There are
social, economic, and cultural philosophies that lace her stories and poems,
exhibiting real feelings and emotions that she personally recorded among her
neighbors, friends, and family. After moving to Holland and obtaining her degree in American Law, she focused on her writing.
In December 2002, she accepted an offer of publication and advanced payment for her debut novel, All Waters Gathering, forthcoming January 2004.
