July 10, 2000
8:05 p.m.

I actually got a chance to have a good night's sleep…and that's exactly what I did. When I finally decided to get up, I called the Gap, and asked for my old manager. I had talked to her are the beginning of the summer, and I asked her if she would be able to give me a job in the middle of the summer. She said, "Yes, of course, Brian. I would be glad to have you work for me again." So coming home from Iowa, I thought that I would have a secure job that I could return to. Well, when I called and asked for Rachel, I was greeted with the response, "Rachel doesn't work here anymore. She moved stores."

You should have seen the look of disgust on my face.

Now that I am out of the workforce, there was nothing to do but get out my trusty phone book and look for places that I just might want to work at. After about ten minutes of that, I called Dom, and said that we need to go to the mall and look for places that were hiring. She came over and we drove to the mall. I talked to some of my old managers at the Gap, and well, I lied to them when I said that I could work during the school year.

"Yes Marco, I am going to be taking a year off of school. You don't need to worry about that."

Ugh…

The next place I applied was at Eddie Bauer. The manager that I talked to seemed to like me, and she actually set up an interview for 6:30 p.m. tonight. Dom and I walked into Pacific Sunwear, which is a store that mainly sells skater type appearal (if there is actually such a thing). The greeter was this really yummy boy, and at that instant…I knew that this is the place that I want to work. I asked for a manager and yet another yummy boy came up. I asked if I would fill out an application, and he handed me the application, a pen, and a comfy place to sit. I filled it out, gave it to him, and we started to make some small talk. He told me that I was a dead ringer for a good friend of his who was in The King and I, on broadway. I smiled and humored him…(anything to do to get the job). Speaking of..when the application asked for the desired position, my initial reaction was, "Sales associate/stock," But I definitely wouldn't have had a problem with putting "Personal bitch for the really nummy manager." What a decision to make..

I put "sales associate/stock"…but I wasn't happy with that decision :)

After that, I was tired of filling out those extremely long applications, so Dom and I went to TGI Fiday's for dinner. Like always, I enjoyed my Friday's experience. I had some time to kill before my interview at Eddie Bauer, so we went to Dom's mom's house for a bit, and we watched some tv. I took a quick nap, and off I was back to the mall. I walked into Eddie Bauer with a genuinely fake smile on my face, and I asked for Lisa, who was going to be interviewing me. We walked off into the mall and we had our interview. I could tell that she really like me, but all I could think was, "I don't really want this job, it's boring, and there are no cute boys." To tell you truth, I have my heart set out for Pacific Sunwear. After my interview with Lisa, she told me to wait so that she could get another manager for my second interview.

Wow, two interviews at the same place, on the same night! They must really like me.

I finished my interview, and I walked into Pacific Sunwear. I was shopping for some tongue ring paraphernalia, and the manager that I had talked to early said, "Maybe you should hold off on that. You know, employees get discounts." What else could I think but, "They're going to give me the job!!" I guess I'll have to wait off until my interview tomorrow.

I hope all goes well...wish me luck.
