January 20, 2001

I kind of told my formal committee that I was going to hold a raffle at the formal, and we would get the prizes for the raffle from surrounding businesses. I said that I’ve done it before, which I have.

So what did I and Dom do today? We drove around to about every surround business to see if they wanted to donate something to our organization for the raffle that we were holding at our formal. We were kind of getting discouraged, but in the end, we walked away with over $80.00 in free merchandise…

Believe you me…I was relieved.

After soliciting…we went to the mall so that we could try to find a present for Jody’s 20th birthday tomorrow. We walked around, and after I was done shopping for myself, we looked for Jody. :)

Dom and I really couldn’t find anything, but we looked at Things Remembered, and we saw this awesome photo album. We didn’t know if we wanted to get her the photo album, so we went into Hallmark to see if they had anything. After looking around, we decided that the picture frame from Things Remembered was our best bet.

We went back to Things Remembered, and we decided on what we wanted to engrave on the frame. We were about ready to pay for the frame, and the girl working said that the totally came to 50 dollar including the engraving. Dom and I just looked at each other, and we asked how that was possible. We said that the price in the window said that the frame was eighteen dollars.

She told us that that wasn’t the price of the frame. Dom and I kindly said that she might want to think of moving that price so that other customers don’t get confused. I mean, everything in the window had a price, and the frame that we wanted had a price in front of that said it was eighteen dollars…so we figured that was the price. She told us that the price we saw was for a frame that was no longer there, and besides, the price tag was “too far in front” of the frame we wanted.

The girl started to get all defensive, and she started saying that she wasn’t going to give us the price. Then she started blurting out that she was the assistant manager, and then she gave me her manager’s name. I said that I didn’t want her manager’s name…I wanted her name. I kindly said that it would make us feel better if she moved it because it was pretty much false advertising. I let the whole things go, and Dom and I chose another frame. We paid for it, and I asked the girl if she had a corporate number. She said that there wasn’t a corporate number for customers.

So, what did Dom and I do?!!

We went home, and we went on the website to find the corporate number. Low and behold, we found one. I then called another area Things Remember, and asked if I could have the corporate number. The person I talked to didn’t seem to have a problem giving the “non-existent” corporate number. It turns out that the person I was talking to was the store manager, and she asked me if I had a problem with one of the employees.

I told her my whole ordeal with the other sales ass-ociate. She then went on to say that she would gladly file a report against her… I was absolutely delighted. Dom and I returned back to the mall to pick up our frame. When we were finished checking it out to see if everything was alright, we paid for the frame.

I then went on to hand her the corporate number, and I said, “Just in case any of your other customers have a problem with your service, here is the corporate number.” I of course had to tell her that another manger didn’t have a problem with filing a report about her treatment to Dom and I. She threw a pen as us, and she said, “Um, Ok.”

I figured that she was used to being reported, and it wasn’t that big of a deal to her..

Dom and I went back home, and I ended up falling asleep on her couch.

I went back to my room, and eventually wrote Jody’s birthday card…
