July 6, 2001 After I woke up and got ready, I headed straight to Tony's house. Believe you me, I was going to spend as much time before I left with him because I know that I'm going to miss him. I called him a little before I got to his place to give him some time to get ready. I am glad that we are getting to the point where we aren't trying to impress each other anymore. Well…I guess that I should say that I'm glad that he's getting to that point. I don't really remember a time when I tried to impress Tony. I figure that if I can't be myself around someone that I like…then what's the point?! We headed over to Caribou Coffee, and we just sat a smoked for a little. After that, we just went back to his place. We talked…mess around…talked…messed around. J I left his place around 12:30pm. I really didn't want to leave him, and this is always the hardest part because we never really know when we're going to see each other…whether it be the next day or several days after. I just sucks having such busy schedules. I'd say that we're doing a pretty damn good job… But, I really had to cut the visit short because I still had to go over to Woodfield so that I could pick up my check from GAP, deposit it, talk to Eleni for a little, and then drive back home, get all my things ready, and head over to Dom's house before 2:00pm. I was seriously running around like a chicken without its head, but I made to Dom's house with more than enough time to spare. I hugged Jody, and we all just relaxed for a little. Here's a little synopsis of this weekend excursion that I'm taking. For you avid readers, you know that I went to this thing called a CPW last summer, and that's exactly where I'm headed this weekend at Univ of Purdue in West Lafayette, IN. It's a Chapter Program Workshop for the service fraternity that I am in. Since I'm the president of my chapter this year, I really wanted to get some fresh new ideas. My chapter kind of died last year under the old president and I want to make sure that strengthen our chapter…and have fun at the same time, which is something that last year wasn't. Anyway, you'll hear more about the weekend later. Dom, Jody, and I had to head back over to my house because I forgot a couple things, but after that, we were ready to hit the road. We had to get to the Hinsdale Oasis so that we could pick this girl Marissa up. A guy from my chapter met her at an activation ceremony, and after they got to talking, he found out that she needed a ride to this CPW. She lived relatively close to me, so we met a couple times and I said that it would be awesome if she car pooled with my friends and I. She from another chapter in Iowa, so I thought that it would be cool to get to know each other so that our chapters might be able to get together during the school year. After thirty minutes of driving, we got to the oasis, and we stopped for the bathroom and some food. Marissa wasn't there yet, so we just sat. She drove up about ten minutes later, and we put all her things in my car. The drive wasn't that bad…except for all of the construction and traffic…which we actually ended up going around. The drive was supposed to take two and a half hours, but it ended up taking us around four. It wasn't bad because I was expecting a lot of construction and traffic, and we got to Purdue an hour early. We headed to the registration area, and there was a handful of other A-Phi-O people there. We all started talking, and before we knew it, an hour had passed by, and it was time to register for our rooms and all that good stuff. The girls and I went to our rooms, and then we all headed back downstairs so that we could have something to eat before our meetings started. One of the guys from the chapter at Purdue asked if we wanted to go with them to eat. Since my friends and I didn't really know where we were going, I couldn't turn him down. So, this started the weekend of brotherly love…hehe.. We had a little Subway adventure, and we headed back to our meeting rooms. I was really excited because I heard that there was going to be around 60 actives at this CPW. The last one I went to had 16; half of which was from my chapter. After the large lecture, we broke down into our smaller discussion groups. I was in the president group, which had about 12 kids and two staff members. We talked about what we wanted to do this weekend; the goals we were going to set for the group and ourselves. It was just a short group period…but I did have time to notice one of the staff members, Joe. I just kind of found it interesting that every time I glanced over at him, he was staring at me. I'm not saying that I didn't like making eye contact with him….but at first glance, I wouldn't have assumed that he was gay. Then again…at first glance I thought he was an active brother instead of part of the staff. I have to admit that I kind of wished he wasn't staff. I saw his last name was the next letter next to mine, and if it weren't for the fact that he was staff…we probably would have roomed together. Our group meeting ended, and we headed back into the large group discussion. Things ended pretty quickly, and we all headed back to the dorms. The girls and I went to my room so that I could change and drop off my things. I saw Joe again, and he was right next door to me. But anyway…Dom, Jody, and I went to a gas station to get some "femine products" and then we sat around Starbucks. I was so ecstatic when I saw the Starbucks because I thought that I was going to have to go the weekend without my life source…hehe… We headed back to the dorms, and we just decided to walk around the campus. It was pretty relaxing, and it was a good way to end what seemed like the longest day. I pretty ready to go to bed after we got back, but my roommate asked if I would switch rooms with a guy he was friends with…I agreed. It was cool either way. My new roommate was another president, and we just stayed up talking. He seemed like a pretty cool guy, and it's going to be a good weekend hearing more of his ideas. We both went to bed around 3:00am…only to get up at 7:00am…ugh..! |
