Daughter Wars
My friend Lou gave me a zinger the other day. He was talking about how everyone says that the way you raise your children is a mark of your own character . I agreed, that yes, it certainly does say something about the parents. Then he added that Chelsea Clinton is a fine young woman well-cultured. I agreed. “Then what does that say about W and his two boozy hussy daughters?” he asked.
I think the answer is this: All during Bill’s tenure the media reported that he and Hillary both had a very close relationship with their daughter. If I recall correctly they even made a plea to the media at the beginning of his presidency to please leave their daughter out of the political fray.
Which means this: Chelsea was more important than their careers, more important than even the highest political office in our land, the presidency. It means they truly, deeply love their daughter. Her well-being was primary. They are good parents, no matter whether or not you agreed with their politics.
W and his wife somewhere along the line dropped the ball. Politics became more important than their daughters. And now the daughters are throwing it back in their faces.
After all what is it that we are all seeking in this world:Love.
It’s a good lesson for all of us. Unfortunately we have to learn it at the expense of two Texas girls.
