The Deer, Damage, Reconstruction, The Wrangler and The 90: 8/22/04 - 9/31/04 |
8/22/04: The Latest... |
Well, since I just love bad news, I will start off with the unfortunate events of mid July. After a great night of hanging out with friends/drooling over blown mustangs and chevelles with slicks at cruise night here in Lincoln I went out for a nice evening drive in the SHO. I headed out of town on O street and decided to turn on 120th and see where that took me. About a mile down the road a white Grand Am was sitting on the side of road with its hazards on and some commotion inside (which later just turned out to be drunk high school kids) but none-the-less I began to pay them more attention than what was ahead of me. As I pass they turn off their flashers and begin to turn around and head north so I watch them a bit in my rearview....and I did a few glance downs and glances back up to watch them and the road. Around the third glance back to the road all I see is a flash of white and brown and the next thing I know the airbag is in my face and all I can see is smoke. I finally gathered my senses and pulled my car over only to see my hood sticking up more than usual and the airbags deployed. So I can finally say I know what it is like to smack a deer doing 55 mph.
Here is the damage....
I eventually got about $3900 from the insurance company, $500 of which went to
buy the SHO back from them. The rest went into savings to later be used as
a down payment for my 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. As of right now I am just
working and trying to save as much money as I can. I went back down to Al
Fitz's place yesterday, which actually is just a small storage bin now, which is
really a huge shame. I spent $200 on a new hood and the dash piece that
goes over the instrument cluster and behind the steering wheel since the one I
had in there originally was completely broken from previous owners. Two of
the three vents work perfectly and there isn't a hole drilled in it for where
this none functioning alarm light was before. Al and I talked for about 45
minutes or so and he informed me of a guy in Grand Island who can paint my SHO
for around $700, which is going to get done next summer I hope.
I'm going to start working on pulling out the radiator support shortly and now
all I need to get everything together is a headlight panel and new headlights.
I'm hoping to have some more pics up shortly of all these new events.
8/24/02: The Teardown Has Begun...Que the Music! |
I got a little crazy and decided to start tearing the front apart so I can get to the radiator support to straighten it out, so off came the front bumper. I think the car looks strangely evil at this point. I've got pics of this so far thanks to a friend of mine's digital camera! What a brilliant device. There is a picture of my new hood from Al Fitz in there along with where my front bumper came to rest after a bit of a struggle in the dark to free it from the clutches of the diabolical "Dr. SubFrame." Anyway I will attack the fenders and hood next, but probably not until I acquire a headlight panel. Updates will appear around the time that all happens.

I finally got around to taking off the fenders and hood, and I've got a
headlight panel on the way. I'm not sure on when it will be here, but I'm
hoping by the end of the week. Hopefully I will get the radiator support
all straightened out by then and I will be able to throw the front end together
on the weekend. I am planning on getting new headlights and maybe clear
corners so it will still be a work in progress for atleast another few
months...because I don't make enough money :(. I am going to borrow my
friend's digital camera again soon and put up some more pictures.
On another note, it was my birthday on saturday....my 21st birthday. It
was a fun time, but I didn't get ANYTHING accomplished this weekend, but I don't
suppose anyone does when they turn 21. I just thought I would throw that
bit of info in.
9/19/04: The Teardown Continues |
The headlight panel has been delayed due to a little mix up with a money order, so the SHO has been sitting for a while and will continue to do so for probably another few weeks....unfortunately. Until then though, here is what she looks like now.
9/19/04: Another Addition to My SHO Collection |
As of the 14th of September I am the proud owner of another SHO. This one
is a red 1990. I bought it for $400 and one 1992 Mustang LX...I didn't
really want to let go of the 'stang just because it was my first project and it
was a good car in its own right....but I guess some sacrifices always have to be
made and I hope that someone does something good with my little old 4 cylinder.
As for the SHO it is a fixer-upper but definitely has potential, and for the
price I got it for there's really no way I could have gone wrong...you can see
pics of "The 90" as it's been dubbed by me, by clicking on the perty picture
below.
