1/9/04: A Trip to Al Fitz's SHO Heaven... |
Tonight me and my friend Josh headed up to Al Fitzgerald's place in Grand Island, Nebraska to pick up some Slicers I bought. I had to buy them because my car is horribly misaligned and the tires are shot on the insides, so I decided to just go all out and buy new rims and tires, and Al gave me a great deal on them, which was super cool of him. I have to say, that place is like heaven, I was like a kid in a candy store. If you wanna see more SHOs than you have ever thought possible in one place, go there....you will be astonished. He had some very nice ones out front and one of the sweetest SHOs I have ever seen inside the shop. A car like that will be my next purchase....a Gen 1, black inside and out, tinted windows, sunroof, the works. It was even a '91 SHO Plus....which if you didn't know already, is fairly rare as far as SHOs go. What a beauty. There were so many great SHOs there. One of the guy's who worked there had a SHO with so many mods on it, his words were: "I don't lose races." It was one sweet car. As soon as I have a reason, which I will find soon I'm sure, I'm heading back up there to check out the SHOs again and hang out for a bit. Al is a super cool guy, and his shop is definitely worth checking out. I only wish I still lived in G.I., I would be there everyday, and I would probably hassle him to let me work there, haha. I'm putting the new rims on tomorrow, and filling them up with air, then getting an alignment on them since I have some extra money. The tires aren't like brand new by any means, but I want them to hopefully last long enough for me to get a job and get some more cash. Well anyway, time to go. Seriously take my advice and go check out Al's place....or SHO Heaven as I call it. Haha, you can sorta call it heaven since there are "dead" SHOs in the back.
1/22/04: The SHOForum |
Since I have been bored lately, and been turned down by a few places, when applying for jobs, I have decided to do some research on my car, and just do some much needed reading up on things. I have gone through countless posts on SHOForum.com and I am really impressed by the knowledge some of those guys have on there. Plus not to mention some of the posts are just hilarious, some of the things said in there really crack me up...#7 to be exact...

This was a post about the most pointless feature of the SHO

I have no idea why that was so funny, but when I read it, I chuckled quite a bit. But on a somewhat more serious note...The SHOForum is a wonderful place for just about anything you want to know, or if you just wanna read up on some stuff for the hell of it. So if you aren't a member yet...go sign up, you won't regret it. I put a link to it down below if you don't feel like typing the address in yourself. You're welcome =P
3/1/04: The EEC Self Test |
So today I decided to check out my engine trouble codes, by running the KOEO (Key-On-Engine-Off), KOER (Key-On-Engine-Running) and Cylinder Balance tests. I got info from a few different sites on how to do it, some with conflicting information, so I think I may write my own up and try to combine them and sort out some of the confusion. But for now these are the links I went to to learn how to do the tests...
SHO Pheonix Project:
EEC Self Test (This site has PICTURES!)
SHOTimes FAQ: EEC Test Procedures
Anyway after running the tests, I came up with these codes...
KOEO
551 - Problem in Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) solenoid/circuit -
Solenoids
Stored Memory Codes
173 - (R,M) Oxygen sensor not switching - system is or was rich - Single, Right
orr Rear HO2S - Fuel control
542 - (O,M) Fuel pump open, bad ground or always on - - Power / Fuel Pump
Circuits
KOER
116 - (O,R) Engine Coolant (ECT) sensor out of range - ECT
538 - (R) System did not receive "goose" test (this means I messed up 3
very simple procedures...oops :p )
Cylinder Balance Code
9 - No Problems
I'm not too sure on the stored codes, considering that I think they have been in
the computer since before I got my new engine...so I plan on clearing the codes
and trying these tests again in a week or so, and see if anything changes.
I know my old engine was running rich and I know I used to have fuel pump
issues...I hope that they are just "old" codes.
One thing I will say about clearing your codes: I found several different
sources on how to clear the codes. Some places say that you can clear the
continuous codes or (stored memory) by just disconnecting the battery for a
period of time (around 6 - 10 minutes on average), however I took a gander in my
handy dandy Chilton's manual and they offered this little bit of information:
"Do not disconnect the battery to clear continuous memory codes. This
will erase the Keep Alive Memory (KAM) information which may cause a drivability
concern." Instead it suggests that you run the KOEO test a second time
and while it is running, remove the jumper wire that you inserted into the grey
and black self test connectors.
3/19/04: New Pics |
These pics were taken after a little bit of a mudding expedition. Jim and I got lost on the way to a party and ended up on some god forsaken mud pit of a road. I had to come back and get her the day after. I decided to take pictures to remind me not to take dirt roads because I have horrible luck and inevitably get myself into trouble.
Even in Nebraska a little snow must fall, lol. Actually this winter a lot of damn snow fell, making for interesting driving. These pics were taken a few weeks after I bought my new Slicers from Al Fitz. In a couple of these pictures it looks like I have a white racing stripe on my hood, that's a bit too ricey for my taste so I'm glad to say that it was just the reflection off of the garage. There is a picture of my interior because I remembered I had never taken pics of that before. Also a picture of my subs (12" Polk Audio DX's with a 760 watt Pioneer Amp) and some more of my light covers.
A whole bunch of pictures of my headlight covers. The design has been done before, however much more professionally than mine. The original creator of this design has a website about his SHO here... Silver and blue SHOgun pics His were clear covers painted to match his car, mine started out black and I cut them to make them look the way they do. I like them, although they aren't the most perfectly done pair of "custom" headlight covers. |
