Confirmation of Enrollment
The next order of business is to
secure a "Confirmation of Enrollment."
If you are an exchange student, I am not really
sure how it works. Exchange students just pay the
US university the going rate for tuition, while
the Australian student coming to your university
will pay his/her university in Australia the
going rate there. If you are a study abroad
student it is definitely an easy (however
somewhat costly) process. If you are accepted to
an Australian University, they will send you an
offer letter. Then you must decided if you are
certain about studying (DEFINITELY DO IT!!!).
Once you have made this decision, you just send
the full amount of tuition to the university. The
way that I did it (and what may be easiest) is to
pay by credit card. For Spring 2002 (Semester 1
in Australia their seasons are nearly opposite)
at Griffith University on the Gold Coast Tuition
was $AUS 6,500. This works out to roughly $US
3,300 depending on the exchange
rate of that day. This is quite a hefty
credit card bill, however even if you were to pay
by check, you can simply use that check to pay
the credit card company instead.
Once payment goes through you
will receive a piece of paper with a number on
it. DO NOT LOSE THIS. It is very important and it
is how you will get your student visa. Make
copies right away and even have your Study Abroad
Advisor hold on to one.
On to Visa
