Hostel Cards

I got the ISIC card before I left for Australia at STA Travel and saw considerable savings when booking Qantas flights through STA. They were around $US25 when I bought one. In Australia they are around $AUS14 ($US8) while I was there. However you need to have this before you book your flight to Australia, but it is still worth the $US25. Once I was in Australia, I tried to use the ISIC card at every hostel and didn't have the best luck. I may have saved $AUS20. For the ISIC card go to http://www.istc.org/p_ab_jfs.asp . In Australia go to http://www.statravel.com.au/bookit/discount/isic.php , again I was lucky enough to have a STA Travel office right on campus in Southport. I would guess that most campuses would have an STA.

Once you are in Australia, a YHA card or a VIP Backpackers card are accepted at most Hostels. These are the cards that you want if you are travelling. There seemed to be a YHA in nearly every town that I visited. Most hostels had a VIP card poster up too. Looking back I could have saved a lot of money with either of these cards. So I suggest looking into it. The website for YHA is http://www.yha.org.au/ , and the website for the VIP card is http://www.backpackers.com.au/ .
