Hyde Park Barracks

Here is the original prison of Sydney. If you don't know Australia was used a little different by the English than their American Colonies. America was (and this is an extremely gross generalization) mostly settled by noblemen with land grants, those religiously persecuted looking for freedom from the Church, indentured servants who paid off the ride over with a couple years labour, and of course slaves from Africa. Well Australia was mostly used in the beginning to send all of the convicts to clean out the overcrowded jails of England. Sydney was one of the first places that these criminals were sent. On the harbour here their is only a few options to run away to; Shark infested waters, the bush where the indigenous people weren't too friendly (and rightfully so), or around the block and back to your cell. Truth was the barracks was a place of some pretty fierce stories and even fiercer living conditions.
