Chapter 26
"Oh God, what have I done?" Fiona asked as she fell into the kitchen chair, burying her face in her hands.
Kristina sat beside her and put her hand on Fiona’s shoulder. "It’s okay. It can be fixed."
Fiona’s eyes were brimming with tears as she looked up at her friend. "I just stood there like an idiot. Can you imagine what Kevin is thinking right now? I blew it!"
"You didn’t blow it. Kevin was quick to tell Nick that you were HIS girlfriend. I think Nick got the point," Kristina said with a chuckle. "And by the way, when did you become his girlfriend?"
Wiping a tear from her cheek, Fiona smiled innocently. "He asked me this morning."
"He asked you? Like, ‘will you go steady with me?’"
Fiona nodded her head and giggled like a schoolgirl. "Yep, pretty much."
"That’s awesome, honey! But, what about those deeply rooted horny fascinations you have about Nick? How are you going to deal with that considering you are probably going to be spending a lot of time around him?" Kristina asked with a wink.
She trusted Fiona to be honest with Kevin, but she wasn’t sure that Fiona would be honest with herself regarding the undeniable attraction to Nick.
And she had seen the way Nick was eyeing Fiona as well. He definitely wasn’t going to back off that easy, even if it meant going head to head with Kevin. She knew him well enough to know that he appreciated a good argument with Kevin occasionally, especially if it involved a woman.
"I don’t know. It’s all happening so fast. I don’t know what to do!"
"Hmm. I wish that I knew what to tell you. But I’m not one for good advice these days. Look how bad I screwed up MY life!" Kristina said, rolling her eyes.
"You didn’t screw up your life" Fiona said as she glanced out the glass siding door only to see Howie looking at the two of them. "Looks like you’ve rekindled your love affair with the Latin Lover over there. He’s totally smitten. Just look at him!" she laughed.
Kristina looked up to find Howie sneaking peeks at her. She smiled at him and realizing that he had been caught, he winked at her before turning his attention back to Nick and Kevin.
"I’m DAMN lucky, Fi. I just knew that he would hate me for hurting him the way that I did, but he doesn’t. He loves me."
Fiona leaned over and hugged Kristina. "I’m so happy for you! It’s about time you found some happiness."
Returning the embrace, Kristina grew serious. "I’m also lucky to have such a wonderful friend. I don’t know what I would do without you and I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you about Howie."
"It’s okay. I probably would have obsessed anyway!"
"You? HA!"
"Not to change the subject, but have you guys talked about everything?" Fiona asked hesitantly.
"Yeah, pretty much. We had a big argument earlier, but it was only because emotions have been running so high. We settled it." Kris smirked.
Laughing, Fiona asked. "Make up sex?"
"Well, we tried, BUT ‘Blondie’ over there interrupted us!"
Fiona laughed. "Uh oh! I bet Howie wasn’t happy about that."
"He’ll get over it. We have plenty of time for that," Kris laughed. "Speaking of, what happened between you and Kev?"
"Oh My God, Kris! Oh My God.." she stammered.
"That good? I knew that he had to be!"
"He is SO awesome, and those eyes…geez, they will melt you from the inside out!"
Kristina laughed. "Okay, well I would say that you are hooked. You are SO hooked."
"Yep! I’m gone!" Fiona said laughing. "I’ll admit it."
"I want details later, but in the meantime, let’s get the guys a beer and go have some fun."
"Oh God. I have to face him again, don’t I?" sighed Fiona.
"Yes. But just remember how Kevin makes you feel when he’s holding you and how those eyes have control over you. You’ll be okay. Nick’s just a guy. Get over it!"
Fiona laughed. "Well, now that you put it that way."
Having spent a little ‘girl’ time together, the girls grabbed five cold beers and headed out to the pool area, laughing and smiling. Both of them felt better and knew that everything would be just fine. They had each other and had wonderful men in their lives. What could go wrong?
