Civil War era spectacles. Jeweler has advised us
that these spectacles are silver but is not able to judge the
grade. They are in extremely good condition and the case is a
workmanship piece of art considering it is hand made. The lenses are
in excellent condition also and in the final photograph, you can see that
the lenses could actually be change by an optometrist quite easily.
Also in the final photograph, you can see that there is a
"20" stamped on the frames. The jeweler advised us
that this a size or even silver content.
The arms slide in and out on a very well designed sliding
mechanism (meant for compact storage), and each metal arm ends in a
"loop". This was to allow the wearer to tie a bootlace or
ribbon to each arm, and then tightly around the head in strenuous
activity, hunting, or combat.
Truly, a museum quality item in very good condition.
