Job Summary
Defines, designs NT/UNIX servers and implements network communications
and solutions. Proposes and implements system enhancements
(software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance
and reliability of the systems. Will manage and maintain network
hardware and software, including switches, hubs, routers and firewalls.
Installs new software releases and system upgrades, evaluates and
installs patches, resolves software problems, and performs system
backups and recovery. Provides strategic input on overall network
planning.
Essential Functions
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Help enforce and improve
Websense's Corporate Disaster Recover/Business Continuity Plan (DR/BC).
· Help in capacity planning
and performance tuning of server and network services such as network
storage.
· Be involved in every
day network operations for Websense including systems administration
of servers, telecommunications, and switches.
· Repairing, moving,
installing, and maintaining server equipment and peripherals.
· Updating monitor maintenance
records, inventory information, and Action Requests in a timely
and accurate manner.
· Obtaining and maintaining
current vendor certifications as assigned by position requirements
and career-pathing.
· Mentoring and providing
technical guidance and direction to other team members as needed.
· Act as Tier III level
of support.
· Leads and coordinates
the operational support and implementation activities for local
area network (LAN) service offerings encompassing heterogeneous
platforms.
· Reviews distributed
computing and network designs to select appropriate operational
support strategies and ensure efficient use of resources.
· Identifies, develops,
and updates operational support standards and procedures.
· Responsible for evaluation
of emerging technologies.
Qualifications:
· Extensive experience
with LAN and WAN design, implementation, and administration essential.
· Must have experience
with Windows 2000 and UNIX networking including TCPIP, DNS, DHCP,
FTP, RRAS, NFS, CIFS, Sub-netting, and LAN administration.
· Strong working knowledge
in planning and implementation, supervision, standards development,
file server hardware and software maintenance, data backups and
recovery, capacity planning and monitoring.
· Strong understanding
of UNIX file systems, backup and recovery, systems performance monitoring
and tuning.
· Strong knowledge of
Active Directory Services, group policy, authentication and identification
methods, support tools, and remote control of other machines on
the network.
· Strong knowledge of
DNS preferably in an Active Directory integrated environment.
· Strong knowledge of
Sun Microsystems hardware and UNIX operating system. Solaris and
Linux, including account management, storage management (SAN/NAS/DAS)
and backup management
· Familiar with various
Cisco routers, switches and hubs.
· Knowledge of and able
to support Internet Information Server (IIS) and Apache web server.
· 3 to 5 years experience
as a System/Network Administrator and have hands on experience.
· Knowledge of virus
protection applications and procedures.
· Management and administration
of the company SAN, NAS and DAS storage environments.
· Configure and maintain
Solaris, sendmail, DNS, LDAP.
· Shell scripting, perl,
and MRTG a plus.
Education
· BS Degree in Computer
Science or relevant experience.
· MCSE, MCP+I, CCNE,
CCNA, Sun, and Red Hat certifications preferred.
