Lord Elrond

The Lord of Rivendell and father of Arwen, Elrond is one of the foremost Elf-Lords, matched in power only by Galadriel of Lothlorien. It is he who summons the Council of Elrond to have each race take part in the discussion of how to deal with the threat of the Ring and the rising power of Sauron. It was also Elrond who urged Isildur to destroy the Ring when it was first captured from Sauron. Thousands of years old, Elrond has seen much, and draws from great wisdom, to which most members of the Council quickly defer. He is not used by Tolkien as a moral agent, but rather as an ally, and a resource, that guides the other characters to their eventual courses.
